Everyone knows that distinction goes to Hugh Grant movies.

F..f...fuck...fuck... fuck... fuck... fuck... fuck... fuck... fuck.. fuck wit that Hugh Grant is.

Worse thing about Hugh Grant is some of his films have been produced by Richard Curtis who in part gave us Blackadder, probably one of the greatest UK TV comedy series ever made. Four Weddings and a Fuckwit starring Hugh Grant.

British "comedy" films. Pah. Any British film, mostly. That new one that they are pushing now clearly aimed at American audiences - The King's Speech about a King overcoming life's challenges by getting help with his stutter. Why couldn't they have done a comedy featuring a racist British King with Tourette's syndrome? Could have even been done featuring a prince/duke as the lead character and based on real life. Who'd make a good Prince Philip?

I would pit Will Ferrell against Hugh Grant anyday.

Also on the U.S. side:

Louis CK
Chris Rock
Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Pineapple Express, etc.)
Jerry Seinfeld
Seth MacFarlane (American Dad, Family Guy)
Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)
The writers and cast of Arrested Development

On the British side:

Rowan Atkinson
French and Saunders
Monty Python
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (but only for Extras)

You don't get much British comedy over there do you? In Rowan Atkinson's case, he has only done two decent things - Not the Nine O'clock News and Blackadder. Everything else he done after has been shite, especially Mr Bean. And French and Saunders have been so-so, especially Dawn French who was in another awful Richard Curtis show, The Vicar of Dibley. Agree about Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for Extras, but not the best.

Off the top of my head (many in my head there).

Spike Milligan
Peter Sellers
Mark Gatiss (when he was part of the team on The League of Gentlemen)
Steve Pemberton (League of Gentlemen and Psychoville)
Reece Shearsmith (League of Gentlemen and Psychoville)
Mitchell and Webb (for The Peep Show)
Reeves and Mortimer (when they did comedy)
Simon Pegg with Nick Frost
Chris Morris (The Day Today, Brass Eye, Jam)
Mark Heap
Green Wing
Steve Coogan (up until Alan Patridge)
Peter Cook
Writers and cast of The IT Crowd
Writers and cast of Father Ted (yes created by an Irish writer (who also writes The IT Crowd) with mostly Irish actors but commissioned by a British TV station)

I'd also stick Gene Wilder in the American lot.

Surprisingly no. Nor do I like George Lopez but I am pretty much going it alone on that one.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

You don't have to like George Lopez, bf. How about Craig Ferguson instead? He's pretty funny.

Craig Ferguson? Funny? Didn't work out in Britain so he buggered off to America to find fame and fortune. Supported Harry Enfield at one point and was left presenting a Scottish archaeological TV show as it wasn't working out comedy wise. Perhaps we should have sent Les Dennis over as well. He could have wowed late-night audiences with his "Well, I don't really know" catch phrase.

You can add Paul Merton to your list, GOGP.

I thought of Paul Merton, but decided not to include him as apart from current appearances on Have I Got News For You and some Radio 4 comedy show, I was thinking of how many British comedians have had their period being funny and then gone off and spent the rest of their careers doing boring documentaries, quiz shows or cameo appearances in TV shows. I think if Paul Merton went in, so would Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Griff Rhys Jones, Mel Smith, Jack Docherty among others who all had their moments doing comedy. Same as Rowan Atkinson. So good as Blackadder, but dire since. I mean how come someone think this as funny. It's as shit as Benny Hill.

It is too bad America ruined British humour. That Ministry of Silly Walks was some pretty ground breaking along the lines of Punch & Judy.
