Back to the Amazon Kindle...

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

Back to the Amazon Kindle...

Postby Frank The Bunny » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:53 pm

So as I mentioned in another thread, I was to receive an Amazon Kindle from my dear mum for Christmas. It has arrived, and yes I've opened my present.

Here's the thing - I never knew the Kindle had an MP3 player and headphone jack....

So here's my idea - playlists for books. Something like Hornby's "High Fidelity" would be dead easy - he's got to mention a good hundred or so songs throughout...

It'd be even cooler if you could mark text so that when you got to a certain page, the song you choose would play...

thoughts?

Ian Banks is a bit of a ame dropper - whats the one about the journo and the bloke knocking off people in weird ways, also full of pervy sex? and theres the one about the band - espedaire street - and quite possibly the crow road. Haven't read any for years so, well, no change there really in terms of helpfullness.

And Kevin Sampson's 'Powder', you can hear the loud clang of a famous name on everr other page - though its about a band so it migth be misleading. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick as per your suggestion. I suppose his stars are stars would be too.

People will probably laugh at the technology in the future. Kindle I suppose is like the second generation of e-readers at the moment with an "experimental" browser for wi-fi internet access and everything in black and white. When they have developed the technology enough to switch to colour, it will be much much better and it will really take off. I don't think e-readers are a fad, people just need to get used to them instead of paper books. It's not that difficult, I mean I don't know about you but I read more off a computer screen now than from paper .

Not in the immediate future. The iPad, for example, doesn't do enough for me to consider purchasing one.

I only plunked down $400 for my newest laptop, which has a dual core processor, 3GB of ram and a 400 gb hard drive. My Kindle retails for 190. Combined, that's quite a bit cheaper than an iPad. Plus, it's hard to read an eBook on an iPad or iPhone... even with the retina display, you're still staring into what is essentially a lightbulb

Ipad is too costly, at least over here. This E-Ink technology can that be developed to colour or is that impossible in which case it would have to be the lightbulb effect probably at higher cost than a standard B&W Kindle.

I'm sure they're working on color e-ink. If the Kindle went to led/lcd - anything light-emitting - it would cancel out why I like it so much. I work for AT&T - I have an iPhone and could have an iPad if I chose to. I chose the Kindle - with WiFi & 3G

I was actually thinking of getting a Kindle 3G as I really wouldn't want to spend £500+ on an i-pad that would cost more than my computer, but think I might wait until there is any news of a colour version. Maybe something for the future, but I do really like the look of it.

I'm fine with black and white. I don't have an interest in using it as a web browser. I've got an iPhone or a laptop for that.

Granted, tablets have a much bigger screen size than my iPhone and are easier to use one handed than my laptop... viewing porn would be better on a tablet, I suppose. But still, I could get quite a few blowjobs for the price of a tablet.

e-ink technologies will indeed improve in contrast and color. Very quickly.

He's right:

E Ink Triton
On November 9, 2010, E Ink announced a third generation of E-ink displays, a color display that is easy to read in high light. The E Ink Triton will display 16 shades of gray, and thousands of colors.

The colour saturation looks poor on images, but fine for page colours. LG also has a colour e-ink in development. But that will do for me if they stick the technology into Kindle or something similar.
