yeah I read that - thats even my comment they printed (not the moron one, the witty use of smiths lyrics, I know, lols, woo hoo the nme thinks I'm great - which if it did, would be a double edged sword I'm sure, sooner or later, after building me up, they'd just knock me down). Still, it shows the perils of being a pop star, or on Marrs case, a former pop star, in a minor way. Once its unleashed, its no longer your own, or under your control at least. The moral of the story. if you dont want people to like or use your your stuff, dont release it.
I suppose the question is, does Cammo really like the smiths and the jam, or is he just saying that so 'the kids', hah ha, think hes a bit groovy and will vote for him, or at least, wont chuck fire extinguishers and suchlike at his policemen. I mean why would a young chap like him, stiff shirt that he is, go around liking the just the enigma variations (top band imho). Alternatively to take the marr view, it'd be a bit of a bind if every time you bought a record you had to fill in a form stating your political, views, or when standing for parliament the local party took you to one side and said, thats all very well mr cherry, but we cant have you throwing it around that you like the smiths, I mean 'the queen is dead??? whats that about', what the queen's dead? no the record, the queen is dead etc, hilarity ensues.
