Them were the days. I was a ball boy in a second division tie in the early 1980s. Great fun. Oversized umbro tracksuit. Muddy football pitch and as a mere child, subjected to various rude words from the stands because I didn't give the ball back to a player for a throw-in quick enough. Hey ho, at least I wasn't an overweight mascot (or whatever they call ball boys these days) in an ill-fitting replica kit and there were no little girl ball boys or overpaid footballers looking like little girls in sight either.
