OMD interview

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

"There's nothing worse than a bunch of 50-year-old men making a terrible record." Indeed. Not them though. I didn't realise that OMD were still around until yesterday when I read a review of History of Modern. Now will spend the next hour looking at their rather cool looking website.

A song posted here for those of use waiting for the release next week in the U.S.

It is actually . . .good.

Vid - here for another tune. This song pretty much sounds like it was made in 1985.
Not a bad thing.

"We're very proud of the new record," he says, "but we're aware we're not going to sell what we used to sell."

"But, unlike other bands, we're not going to default on our mortgage payments if nobody buys it."

Sorry for the Bunnymen to say this:

It's the best comeback...ever!

What a strong album of fantastic songs. Best for me are The Right Side? 8:20 min (Europe Endless by Kraftwerk) and History of Modern (partII). I feel like a teenager again. That's all that matters.

That's enough reason for me to check the album out.

I don't think you were born when Echoflowers was a teenager or when OMD was releasing music. It would make you feel like a placenta.

Me too, but my wife would kill me.

Okay, but a beautiful death with a smile on your face. Not many can say this at the end of their life.

McCluskey is wary of looking like a desperate pop granddad.

"It's one thing to play to people who are going, 'Oooh, I can't wait to hear Enola Gay,'" he says. "It's a much more dangerous animal to take on a new record.

"And, let's be honest, most bands of our generation really shouldn't."

He won't name names - but derides bands who release a new album "just to give their tour a name" or rehash their old material "with a half-asleep cabaret vibe".

Half-asleep cabaret vibe? Ahem ...

Sad - I thought OMD were shit back in the day - since I have grown to like them somewhat - but compared to another band's output over the last decade these sounds ground breaking.

So do I... maybe I'll hang out at the local high school and get one.

if you feel like a teenager at least make sure they are 18+.
Thanks for the post about OMD and the newish album sounds good (a slight tinge of the Jesus and Mary Chain) till the harmony vocals came in which isn't a bad thing either. Will have a look out for it.
