libertines - reading

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

libertines - reading

watching em on the telly at reading last night. IS it just me or aren't they nearly as good as all the stuff that surrounds them seems to suggest? also, in their set and some other stuff I watched, there seemed to be alot of girlies lifting their tops up to show us their bras. Not being funny girls but whats the point in that? its like the 1970s never happened. i said point. fnar

I watched a bit of it, but I never understood the hype about the Libertines. Seems even more stranger when their years of success was what just two or less years. Must of been Doherty's bad boy image that kept the hype alive, and no doubt encourages girls to expose themselves - aren't women supposed to prefer bad boys to normal sensible ones.

My opinion-fucking cockney drugged up wanking shite.Cant play, cant sing-bullshitted up by the London press to create a 'a scene' without talent etc etc.Avoid and all their brown sugared entourage.

However..my mate worked for Business Link in Dudley and the drummer used to work there too.Namecheck that one NME to make them look cool!

Was that in the period running up to this comeback?

No before.Gary I think his name his.He announced his departure in an M & S suit and used to dress like a bit of a square by all accounts.Next thing my mate sees him on the front of the NME with the LIbertines and a stylist from hell. He's about as rock and roll as eating an apple.

The hype about the Libertines is so much more interesting than their music. Weren't they manufactured by Mick Jones from the Clash?

They have a buzz around them that would be justified for the early Bunnymen or Joy Division but which they don't deserve at all. In the mean time, bands like Rozi Plain, Francois and the Atlas Mountains or Uncle Jellyfish get no publicity at all-they would have a right to that level of hype. It makes me maaaaaad! MAAAAAAAAAAAAD!
Though I suppose in the case of the latter two, being French doesn't help. And in the case of the former, having only the reject songs and videos on YouTube. Except mine.
But I need to download more, being on dial-up makes this difficult.
