i refuse to even learn the name of the song but "everybody look at us now...." etc of the last album. gets my vote. Flowers, up to and including the flowers song itself is OK. rest bit dodgy. And I'd say King of Kings & Flowers are the best ones on it. Sergeants take on the blues. good one.

Dr Evil wrote:With Flowers, mostly tosh but with two "OK songs"- Burn for Me and Flowers- and two great songs- King of Kings and the classic SuperMellowMan-they did the exact opposite, leaving the worse song -"Burn for Me"-a sort of sickly imitation of Ocean Rain-till last. If they had got the order of the songs right perhaps the album might even be discussed as not exactly as a classic, but at least a return to form.

Different order may have worked. Flowers was also crying out for better production as well and then there were songs that could have been dropped and replaced. I think Marble Towers could have been brought in, replacing Hide and Seek. Maybe Scratch The Past as well. The "Alright Alright" backing vocals on It's Alright no. Make Me Shine, weak chorus. That bit "Hey now, hey now...." on Buried Alive destroyed a perfectly good song. The list is endless.

We should make that a rule now - it could be referred to as: "the song that thou must not mention" or a word that we all really really hate, maybe a food type. Anyone mentioning it by its proper title should get 50 lashes or be cast out into the Interweb wilderness for they are not welcome here.

oo no, i'd forgotten its alright, I like that - including the backing vocals. bit creepy, all that voices in my head stuff. agree on the production though. If they'd have broufght me n to do the production on its alright I'd have put the chorus right up front as a sort of we will rock you chant. Mac could have worked it into the set, taunting the audience and winding them up into a crescendo. Obviously he'd have to go to 'how to work the audience' school a couple of days a week, but such dedication can have exception results. that is what producers do isn't it? Change things around, challenge the band (hi my names eno and i want you to select a card and then rpetend to be a tree for the day) - apart from wait for the band to go to the pub and put a load of horns on the lead track.

Flowers wilted due to lack of money-remember Cooking Vinyl basically just release albums already recorded by established bands with a guaranteed fan base.Hugh Jones on Siberia was better but too many highs and lows.I quite enjoy the bubblegum pop element of the Fountain but whether or not they ever,or have the inclination,to do something leftfield,I very much doubt it which is a shame. If they came back with a killer weirdy album then Im sure theyd have a third comeback. The future for them at the moment whilst they still sound good live is back catalogue tours and festivals truncated by more balladry writing.Oh for a Way Out and Up We Go style song again...

I also doubt they'll do anything leftfield now. I'm looking to Will in his solo work for that and quite looking forward to hearing this new music he has done with Les. Shame really as I would prefer it to include Mac under the Bunnymen name.

I think we've all given up on that. Flowers was supposed to be that, then Siberia but it was just more Mac songs with Will adding stuff. Fountain was just a revisit to WAYGTDWYL with less developed songs.
I guess you could take a few songs from each of those and make one fairly good album/playlist for your iPod.

which were come backs one and two then? evergreen I expect. Which is the next. We obviusly need a new thread Mr Brian, 'The Post WAYG.... Best of Album. Funnily enough, all this talk of siberia is making me want to give it a spin, which I haven't done in a good while.

Didn't catch that. Evergeen was comeback one. Maybe Dave misspoke or maybe he meant comeback two was the hoopla around the Ocean Rain gigs. They certainly received a lot of good press then but then The Fountain came out and they fell flat again.

I guess Evergreen was the comeback album. Everything else after that and the kids didn't care. Even Siberia, sadly.

electrafixion? in all but name that is.

even though I'm working like a trojan here I now have the task in my head of creating the ultimate post whatr are you album. I've already done a quick listing, just by picking my three best from each album - with maybe a place for one more if its warranted. Obviously you cant crfeate a classic album by just picking your faves from a given selection, it might not work (I feel a football analogy coming on here) so I may have to put this stuff on my pod - I know, its prcatically empty after I decided I was bored and trashed it. Mind you, in doing so I might find myself breaking my own rule of not letting the fountain anywhere near the pod. Plus I reallyought to listen to those b-sides, though in generally none have rated a play in at least a couple or more years.

Efix was no comeback, they were dropped by their label in the middle of a poor selling US tour weren't they?

Don't forget the b-sides in your comp

I always picture jazz hands and a Rockettes style kick line when I hear that

Fat Cherry, you should probably should start that post-WAYGTDWYL fantasy album thread soon or it will get buried here in our bitching and moaning, sometimes we need a positive thread around here.
