Reissues Out Of Print?

Postby withahip » Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:09 pm

Guy at the record store tells me the first four reissues are now out of print. I had yet to get the reissue of the Grey and Crocs so I ordered em on line.

Any truth?

Ouch. With mp3 downloads it would seem reasonable if it were the case.

Good idea for everyone to get them for as long as they can be got. I'm glad I did though I feel rather poor now.

grey album cd issue

Postby Ag » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:10 pm

I didn't feel this quite justified a new topic, but while we're on it when did they first press the grey album as a cd?
I picked up a dingy copy a couple years back that I'd like to think is from 87/88.

From what I remember it came out on vinyl, tape and CD on its initial release in '87.

It's as good a topic as any other.

How far back to CDs go? Anyone know who issued the first CD?

I know my first CD was Violent Femmes "Why Do Birds Sing"

Though Latham's production neutered the band, especially upon hearing the outtakes, and the liner notes almost say as much, it is a great cd for summer listening.

What the hell is "summer listening"?

You should try our summer. Sitting in a duffel coat, under an umbrella with a mug of Bovril listening to Porcupine.

If someone would just remix before reissuing to make it sound like what they really sounded like I think we'd all be happier. Too many fing cymbals. Gives me a headache.

It isn't the mix. The sound itself is stellar. If you listen to Jimmy Brown you get an idea of how much more energetic some of these tracks could have been if the band had not been convinced giving them the "80s" radio treatment. Satellite definitely could have really let loose.

Still, it is what it is and songs like Bedbugs, Life, Lips and Lost and Found sound good.

they'll be back. probably with some tweak or other so the anoracks will buy them again - and yeah, they'll tell us, this is what it was supposed to sound like. surely must be some on ebay - its not like that beautiful south album or simon and garfunkels greatest hits or rumours, that everyone o the plaet had to have. or dark side of the moon. actually i think I've lost the ocean rai one. must be here - probably under a pile of socks. But I have about 4 others i can fall back on should I really need it.
