Tramlines Festival Sheffield-stunning show

Postby Dave Smith » Sun Jul 25, 2010 4:57 pm

Just got back.No moaning,no jokes....Mac rolled back the years and sang like a bird. Absolutely scorching performance with Mac ,Will and the band on top,top form-real aggresive, vibrant, angry sound over a superb PA.Typical Festival set but we got SOS,Do It Clean,Zimbo,All That Jazz.NLF segued into the Fountain NOT Walk on the Wild Side and then Richard Hawley came out for a brilliant feedback drenched Waiting For My Man.

They blew all the kiddy bands and the dreadful Mystery Jets away.

Have to say...wtf were the kids wearing? .They all looked like Gok Kwon v Timmy Mallet.

That is such great news.
Bet you're glad you made the effort.

No 'Walk on the wildsisde' what a relief.

Wish I had been there- thanks for posting the good news.

Tramlines last night - Great Great Show

Postby wingokenda » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:25 am

The Bunnies were at the top of their game - one of the best I've seen them since 97.

They played with commitment and energy - it was so good to see so many people really blown away by their performance. Sat on a train back to Scunthorpe, listening to everyone talking about the show.

Richard Hawley appearance was an unexpected treat, but even more encouraging was the awesome version of Show of Strength.

Looks like the Crocs/Heaven up Here tour may be something worth attending...

Chris

Have scanned the set list - how do I put it up on the site ?[/img]

Looks good, good crowd if not a little static. Another vid of All My Colours:

I have to admit though, I went to chavtown Hitchin's Rythmn of the World on Saturday and saw a stomping chicken in the basket-type hour an half set from Hugh Cornwell and the atmosphere was electric. Very good performance.

They were like that down here as well. We couldn't stop laughing at them for their fashion faux-pas. Once upon a time, it was the kids who were embarrased by the parents. I think it must be the other way round these days.

Not only are they playing well - but whoever mixed that did an amazing job. I can't be how clear and separate the insturments are and that it comes through on a video mic.

You think learning the old Croc songs they haven't played in a while is a bit rejuvenating?

oh dear, definite sign of old gitsville. I'm not criticising, I've been a resident of 'what on earth do they think they look like' road for some time now and so take great pleasure in welcoming both you and smiffy to the neighbourhood. Thing I find is there seems to be little 'tribal' dress sense, in that all fashions seem to be merging into one. I'm assured that this is incorrect by both my own daughters and those belonging to the present mrs cherry. Even worse they give me a list of types of youth cultural groups i have never heard of or dont understand. or I say things like, 'emo? isn't he a really crap american stand up?'.

I must of been a member of old gitsville without knowing it for quite a while. More than ten years ago I would laugh at the sorry people only several years younger than me thinking they were cool wearing tank tops and wearing retro Gola trainers carrying DJ bags emblazoned with the same logo of a naff cheapo 70s/80s brand that would have gotten you beaten up at school back then if worn. One chap I observed on Saturday with what obviously was his girlfriend with that Gok Kwon v Timmy Mallet dress sense picked his mobile phone out of his pocket to take a call, talking and making hand movements like he was gay. Of course, on the other extreme there were some chav mockney blokes there but even they were hugging each other like they'd just met up for a "lads" night out at the Blue Oyster Bar.

This is funny..Im not alone in my thoughts! We sat in the pub yesterday watching these hordes of horrendously put together outfits of all variable shapes and sizes wondering whats happened to fashion movements?Every decade had its own styles, something to 'bring together' like-minded individuals but really...if I see another pair of those cheap loud coloured, oversized f*cking sunglasses that make the wearer look like a mental case I will scream. The youth look like an epilectic in a paint mixing factory.

Said same to wife when I got back and she said Wayne Hemmingway had been going on about the same thing on the radio. He reckons its something to do with the internet and how quickly fashion pictures are displayed so that cultures dont get time to form properly.

The Timmy Mallet sunglasses. There were plenty of people wearing those. I also noticed that fedora felt/trilby hats appear to be back in fashion, although I thought they'd died a death after the Libertines split up the first time round. Perhaps they never went away and I hadn't noticed. Naff straw hats also seem to be the festival goers must have this season. The bigger the better.

It's like your worst nightmare going to these places.

Hey folks, newbie here, went to Tramlines just to see the Bunnymen and was well impressed, thought it was a great turnout and fortunately the rain kept away! Looking forward to the shows later in the year.
