UFO's

Postby Mr. Brian » Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:41 am

Any opinions on this UFO sighting in Texas or UFO's in general?

OK, since you asked...

I believe there is life on other planets. It's impossible to think there is not if you can get a good understand of how big our galaxy is much less the whole universe. Traveling at the speed of light it would take 100,000 years to travel from one end of our Milky Way galaxy to the other, comprised of one billion stars. That's just one galaxy. I'd be surprised if there was not other lfe actually. However as far as UFO sightings go there has never been any real physical evidence produced. We just get grainy photo's or video. I can't explain mass sightings other than it's part optical illusion and part imagination. When you are looking at the sky, especially at night, things can be very deceiving. It is very hard to get a handle on the size or speed of an object when there is nothing relative to the object you are witnessing.

Hundreds of years ago, people believed the Earth was the center of the universe. It just made sense then and most people were devoutly religious and it made sense since we were God's great creation. We now know we are just a tiny spec orbiting an average sun in a remote part of one of billions of galaxies. That kind of makes us less special. The notion that some alien civilization is interested in us just seems like wanting to make us more interesting again.

Also, just because there is no immediate or even longterm explanation doesn't automatically make it visitors from another planet. It seems like anytime this happens people go right to that. Sometimes I think we have not changed at all from the people who first saw lighning and thunder and invented Thor.

1-I believe there is life throughout the universe.
2-I doubt that aliens have visited earth
3-I suspect a portion of UFO sightings are cause by classified aircraft. Take for instance the F-117 or SR-71 or the B-2 all of which would EASILY have been mistaken for flying saucers during test flights. See below.

These are all old aircraft. What do you think the CURRENT secret ones look like?

Ever see a Stealth bomber straight on coming toward you from a distance? It looks like a hovering disk because of the shape, from a distance it can look as if it's swaying a bit as it maneuvers slightly thus giving that hovering effect.

have you seen the video of the Texas thing? It's linked in that article? Not exactly compelling. They sound drunk too. I realize there were other witnesses but in this day and age can't someone shoot a clear video of a slow moving object alleged to be a mile wide?

from another article:

The veteran pilot said the UFO, an estimated half-mile wide and a mile long, was "bigger than a Wal-Mart."

It's not that I trust the govt or anything but a great many of these things do happen in remote areas known to be used for testing by the military. I highly doubt the military would come right out and admit, "oh yeah, secret project, shhh". Plus not every organization within the military shares everything with one another. It's not like any Air Force pilots that "chased" a UFO had any knowledge that another branch or organization within the military was conducting anything secret. In fact I believe the govt encourages to some degree the idea of alien visitors as a cover for their projects.

When you say they could be "military" are you suggesting only U.S. military because they've been seen all over the world.

also IF these things travel at the speed of light, over 186,000 mis. per second, how do we know they didn't pass long ago and our eyes are just seeing them now since we can't see things at that speed?

Pretty much any military force with air capabilities is conducting tests of some kind but you are correct they do happen everywhere. Mexico City seems to be a hotbed of activity for example. I don't think they are ALL military but I do think a great number of them are. Others can be attributed to optical illusions of normal objects or atmospheric conditions.

Also, I don't completely discount the idea of a flying saucer from another planet visiting here, it's just that the absence of a logical explanation does not automatically make it a visitor from another planet.

By the way, i used to be a big believer in all this. I've read the books and watched the shows.

I saw this UFO in 1978:

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aatjerFCRP8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aatjerFCRP8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I saw them again without Schenker but they were shite.

I took classes at the Hayden Planetarium because I've always been fascinated by space, esp. space and time. How time slows down, how someone ages faster at the bottom of say, the Empire State while someone at the top ages slower, man's concept of time and how it has no significance to outer space, only life on earth, etc.
The classes were about Einstein's multiple theories of relativity ( and of course were in laymen's terms.) I suck at math so they'd HAVE to be!

Sorry to say I still believe in UFOs.

I saw a cluster of them in the 60s when I was with my mom and others.
I saw the same one John Lennon saw over Manhattan. I think it was the 70s, could have been early 80s.

That IS amazing because Lennon died in 1980.

It was 1974 BTW
