Mac at St Georges Hall-a night to forget.

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

To Wabbit

There seems to be some confusion with the c word and Yorrick Hunt at St Georges Hall.

It was at the Fairfield show that Ian allegedly called a woman in the audience a c*#t.
This being the same show where Ian ended up getting attacked by a fan.

It was St Georges Hall and obviously every other show that Ian thinks he's onto a winner by continually telling the Yorrick Hunt joke.

Surely he must be getting bored of it too but then this must be what happens when you have a seroious relationship with someone the same age as your daughter - knock knock jokes .

Yes and Ian also believes that women have never invented anything of worth, said in the same breath of saying he is not a sexist or anything...

Now that you bring it up, what have they invented?

If you read the thread carefully Jack you will see it was not I who brought it up.

However, it is an interesting debate which digs up the whole argument of sexism where we are talking about a world where women were not aloud to do too much untill about 40 years ago.

But off the top of my head was it not a woman who invented the 'post it note' I could be wrong but remember reading something about that somewhere, she's the mother of some celebrity.

What about Marie Curie?

Dangerous argument and a ridiculous statement for Mac to say at a gig.

Then again he tells knock knock jokes .

It can't be that ridiculous if you agree with it, which you apparently do, since all you could come up with were Curie (not an inventor) and "maybe the post-it note" (invented by a man).

BTW you were thinking of "liquid paper" invented by Bette Nesmith Graham, mother of Michael Nesmith. If that is indeed the counter-example you intended, then I think Mac can feel pretty safe in his assertion.

It's a man's world, but here's just some of the things invented by women:

polonium, kevlar, windshield wipers, Scotchgard, Geobond, COBOL computer language, fireplace dampening tool, laser eye surgery, Apgar score, non-reflective glass, Nystatin, petroleum refining, dishwasher, maritime signal flares, reflection hologram,CPR mannequin, catheter, human stem cell isolation, vacuum canned food preservation, improved gas heating furnace, illusion transmitter, disposable diapers, disposable cell phone, and last but not least, Hedy Lammar's secret military (wireless) communication system used during WWII.

And for what it's worth, regarding the Bunnymen, Will and the others should encourage Mac's solo career.

Rozier and Vallino, a mother and daughter invention team, invented the intravenous catheter shield.

Weren't windshield wipers invented by Greg Kinnear in that one movie?

Thank you Jack - liquid paper. I knew it was something like that.

I do not agree with Ian and his sexist rant at all.
I do admit though that I don't know much about who invented what ,men or women.

What I do know courtesy of the show Q.I is the following.

The gentleman who invented the post office box died regretting it as it gave women a chance at freedom of communication. Before the post office box women had to ask permission from a man to get a letter sent and all their letters were checked by a man before sent.
Apparently he was such a sexist that he felt that his invention had created a voice for women that had previously not existed which he regretted to his dying day.

So how on earth were women supposed to be able to invent anything if they weren't even aloud to send a letter.

But having read other replies I am now far more informed than I was previously on women and their inventions quite remarkable considering.
Thank you Villiers Terrace.

Having discovered the letters she was writing to his very own brother in the next town, this reaction is quite understandable. Not to mention the "friendship" with the postman.

Especially when he discovered the postman was posting french letters in his wife's letterbox each morning.

Well, in rock-related inventions, the mother of one of the Monkees invented White Out. Very useful, especially back in the day of typewriters.

It also explains the Monkees' sound.

Jack actually beat me to my mention giving her both the exact name and which Monkee. Ah well.

In any case, I'm not sure which trade name it was that she invented it under since it's been presented as both Liquid Paper and White Out. I love the tape version of it since it doesn't have to actually dry. Brilliant person who came up with that idea.
