Backing Vocals on "Lost and Found"

Postby GMinotaur » Fri Jun 04, 2010 3:46 pm

Just past the halfway point in the song, there's a very short section where Mac is singing the chorus, and the backing vocals change up a bit and suddenly it's almost this... I don't know, opera-like vocal section...

It only lasts about 10 seconds (go to the 2:00 mark on this video which is right where it kicks in). It's nowhere else in the song at all, just a quick little appearance and then gone.

I'd like to know who sings that part?

It's probably my single most favorite moment in any E&tB song and it just kills me how amazing it is. Hopefully someone else likes it... anyway, just been trying to find out who that is, the range is really impressive!

Thanks!

Hi GM! Welcome.

I think it's Ian doing all the vocals including the backing. Sounds like many layers and some electronic manipulation (don't know the exact terminology).

Remember, back then he could do a lot with his voice, not like today where he's forced to stay within a limited range.

That being said, some of the songs on the Grey Album do have some really rough vocals, like he's got a sore throat or he stumbled in to do the vocals after a long bender. It's like a preview of things to come, unfortunately.

That was Ian letting loose. It's him on the backing vocals through the whole thing, and in fact on nearly all the Bunnymen tracks. Though they did a few group backing vocals on some of Ocean Rain. Les can sing but didn't want to.

Ian's lowest prob the Game, tho he would improvise all over the place just for kicks back then. I think his highest might actually be in Rollercoaster.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)
