Peasy's blog on BOW said that all the band members left today, except for Ian and him. They were going to an "advert agency." Must be this place (Collin Lewis), and this fellow (Collin Wade) took a picture. I see it's been a long tour...

Ian McCulloch of Echo & The Bunnymen played at my work! Best Monday ever!

Yep, he looks rough.

What's with playing Best Buys and advert agencies? I thought Mac prides himself on being "cool." This ain't cool.

I think it was more like taking care of business at the advertising agency and they asked/made him play some songs. I also found a twitter by a marketing and PR consultant for the broadcast industry lady who was boasting about going for a beer with him. I hate her. (Just kidding)

They may have stayed in the states in order to get behind the scenes stuff done. Maybe this ties in with that "sync deal" he signed that was reported a few weeks ago. I'm sure BOF will fill us in.

By the way, what does a "sync deal" mean?

A music synchronization license - or sync license, for short - is a music license that allows the license holder to "sync" music to some kind of media output. Often sync licenses are used for TV shows and movies, but any kind of visual paired with sound requires a sync license.

A sync license gives you the right to use a song and sync it with a visual in that when you hold a sync license, you are allowed to re-record that song for use in your project. If you want to use a specific version of the song by a specific artist, you also need to get a master recording license. Typically, a sync license is obtained from a music publisher while the master recording license is obtained by from the record label or owner of the master.

A sync license covers a specific period of time, and the license will stipulate how the song can be used. There is one flat fee involved in obtaining a sync license, and once the license is in place, the song can be used as stipulated as many times within the license period as the license holder likes. In other words, if you obtain a sync license and use the song in a film, you do not have to pay a fee on the sync every time the film is viewed.

Thanks Kounelaki. So when I heard Lips Like Sugar in an episode of Cold Case (what a highlight of that show!), a sync license was in play? Does this mean we can look forward to Ian's music being used in every film, tv show and tv commercial for the next year or so?

Remember when British Airways wanted to license Never Stop? Nothing ever came of it, so the assumption was that they wouldn't allow the song to be used. Hmpf!

Yes, Kirsten Dunst. And she probably smelled like pot. Did she ever get her teeth fixed?

No, Dunsten, the hotel cleaner. Mmmm, that smell, an all-pervading bouquet of Jeyes fluid, furniture polish and commercial bleach, there's nothing like it. I hope she didn't let him wring her shammy.

I'm enjoying the twiiter search thing I found tremendously.

Yesterday, he's at the ad agency and sang at least one song, then he goes for a beer with a group that included a PR/Marketing lady where he learned the meaning of the word "mensch" and taught them British swear words. Hope he didn't tell that knock-knock joke.

http://twitter.com/culturemomblog

he is the nicest guy, I taught him the word "mensch" - he taught us British curse words I

Then he went to eat at a Brazilian steakhouse with someone named Paul Adams and Mags from A-Ha. Did I say steaK???

http://twitter.com/TheBigPA

An unbelievably surreal dinner at Churrascaria Tribeca with Mac from the Bunnymen, unstoppable with the jokes, and Mags from A-Ha. Comedy.

The photo:

He looks a lot better in that photo than the earlier one. Sounds like he kept the knock-knock jokes for the gentlemen.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Mac with Mags from A-ha. That's scary. Like a cover of Look-In circa 1984.
