Live In Liverpool versions of the Flowers songs are 100 times better.Flowers is a bunch of demos put out by a band with no label, money or direction at that time. You could argue 2 out of the three are still true but at least the Fountain had a bit of dough thrown at it albeit possibly to the wrong producers etc..

Not a career expander. the only people I hear finding anything positive about it are hardcore fans. Has the music attracted any new fans? I doubt many.

I'm surprised by how many reviewers in the articles I've found have written positively of The Fountain. The guy from Boston, Jim Sullivan, wrote some really nasty and uncalled for reviews of the band and their shows and output in the past, but now he's comparing The Fountain to the best stuff they did during their heyday.

Maybe he owes Ian money or has finally gone deaf.

I agree. Flowers was too slow per se. Another one I quite liked on Flowers is Everybody Knows but it needed to be faster, heavier, more rockier. Siberia's louder sound drowned out some of the songs on that album, but Flowers would have benefitted from the same production techniques. Even if they had no money, they were still signed to a label and it could have been done much better than it was.

Or maybe, like some of the folks here, he genuinely likes it.

I can't help it. I fucking LOVE Life of 1000 Crimes. God help me. There's some interesting guitar work that's best heard with either headphones or really loud.

I bet Forgotten Fields would sound great live. Especially when Mac's voice gets gravelly. Sometimes it works like on Scissors In the Sand. Shroud of Turin is pretty good. Lyrics very good in my opinion.

My mother may have something to say on the matter. Something about always being a winner in my heart.

Life of A Thousand Crimes could have been on the Gray Album for sure.

Shroud of Turin is still meh but I was able to come across another song with the same name that was more interesting.

You know, I've got to agree on The Fountain. This CD has grown on me, and this from someone who really hasn't followed them much since the Early '80's. Life of a Thousand Crimes', etc. I'm diggin' this stuff. I picked up Evergreen a few years back, and I can't say that it compares. I just ordered Siberia, so not sure what to expect. Now if the Leal vocal could just be improved even a little bit...
