What If . . . .

Hey what if the Bunnymen, put out a cd of the best of The Doors. They could record 10 of the best Doors songs. They could also do 10 of the best Pink Floyd and 10 of the best Velvet Underground and finally 10 for Television. I think them covering ten or twelve songs on a cd of each of these four bands with there own take on them would be very interesting and I bet it would bring them some needed attention and I bet they would sell very well.

They could make them available as downloads on the award-winning website, but true to form, the webmaster would insist they would be available only through iTunes, thus alienating a large portion of their fanbase that doesn't use iTunes and leading to poor sales figures.

In addition to your proposal Joe-eatb, I'd like to see both Ian and Will pick out their all-time favorite songs (10 each) and do cover versions of those songs.

It would probably have to be downloads. I can just see management approaching a record label. You heard us right. Four cover albums. It's what the kids want.

I would be all for a covers album as long as Will got to pick the songs.

I doubt they'd be willing to pay royalties to anybody, so Will would have to pick songs from the public domain like "Happy Birthday" and "It's a Long Way to Tipperary."

I like it.

I'd like them to do a cover of Radiohead's "Morning Bell" and "Everything in its Right Place", The Verve's "Space and Time" and "Lucky Man", Siouxie and the Banshees "Swimming Horses", Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game", Asian Dub Foundation's "Rebel Warrior" and "Conscious Assassin", Queen's "Spread your Wings", Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" , Magnet's "Willow's Song", Rozi Plain's "Wriggling" , Rachael Dadd's "Finger on the Button" and The Chameleons "Second Skin." But only if they were as good as when they made "Heaven up Here" or "Reverberation" because if the vocals on "The Fountain" are anything to go by, they would be an embarrassment even covering The Velvets or The Doors, let alone any of the other acts. Even at their best, their cover of The Beatles "All you need is Love" was underwhelming, despite being the better band.
Also a semi-cover of Noel Burke's "Flaming Red" would have been great with Mac's operatic wail, but if Mac sung it "Fountain style" it would be a sick joke.

I think the band should tour doing a revamped version of the music from Xanadu.
