Just found this on the superb Viper label. Out in a couple of weeks. Sounds very interesting.

Am the wrong guy to ask, never really got into The La's all the hype passed me by... But according to followers of the band I know the sessions are pretty darn good... Although I think the recording quality may be questionable...

We got this song out here, but I can't remember anything else.

More recently, used over here on a sofa (couch?) commercial, sacrilege.

the Las minimalist set at glastonbury the other year was classic and a lesson to all:

i.e., all you need is one brilliant song and one singer with serious issues

Oh, that jangle pop sound.

Or you could have a few more brilliant songs and one singer with serious issues and call yourself Echo & the Bunnymen or something realllly ridiculous. But, who would do that?

I've had the "Pete" sessions for quite a while. Was never a huge Las fan, but do like them. Supposedly Pete even played on a least one song. The copy I have must be like 20th generation, as the sound is pretty crappy, but compared to the eventual studio album they released of the same songs, this session def. has a lot more energy.

That's the big trend nowadays. It's not just the old bands, but recent bands. Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition is already in a commercial. Phoenix has a song in a Toyota Commercial. Switchfoot has been used as well. I mean, why hire a jingle writer when you can get a song from a popular band and hope their mojo sticks to you. And the band of course hope the national spot will make them more popular.
