The missus has been harping on me to read Nick Hornby's books (she's read them all) but she was especially adamant I read this one (think she wanted me to see myself in Duncan) and with fc's post I was like okay I guess it's time.

I really liked the About a Boy movie if that counts as reading a book.

perhaps we all have a little duncan in us bf. i think about a boy is one of those rare occurrencies where the film is better than the book, or at least as good, he says swaying gently just in case someone proves him wrong. also one of he few hughie grant [performances where he's not playing the twit with floppy hair.

not a fan then, er, er, er sweeps hair back with hand, of c-c-course not. he's quite good in that though i reckon, and it was yeasr f=before i realised the suicidal mum is her out of muriels wedding, and little miss sunshine. now theres a strange film, in a way.

though hornby is only partly correct there. universities are chocca bloc with people studying people who are only known to a few, its the status if the subject thats probably more important - or the status of the academic, or more likely, both. I'm probablty going up my own arse here.

Finished About a Boy and I too like the film better. That scene at the talent show was genius and the Will character really puts himself out there for Marcus. I didn't get that sense from the book. Less heart it seems. Still I've enjoyed this Nick Hornby crash course and I don't recall a time the missus bought me three things in a week out of the goodness of her heart.
