Shack Charity Gig - June 6th

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

SUDEP AWARENESS DAY : In Memory of Lian Thomas

A day of music and entertainment to raise funds for the Epilepsy Bereaved (Charity Number 1050459) www.sudep.org

Venue ; DeBees Music Bar, Winsford, Cheshire

Date ; Sunday 6th June 2010

Time ; 2pm till Late

SUDEP - Sudden Unexpected Death In Epilepsy is when a person with epilepsy dies suddenly and prematurely and no other cause of death can be found during a post-mortem.

Lian's family were shocked when they were informed that SUDEP was the cause of their 25 year old daughter's untimely death. They had never been informed of the risks associated with epilepsy and uncontrolled seizures. They believe that Lian was also tragically unaware.

After some research, leading to contacting the charity Epilepsy Bereaved, it became disturbingly apparent that many other families around the UK had also found themselves in the same situation, totally uninformed and trying to make some sense of their shattered lives.

More than 500 people a year die from SUDEP in the UK. Most deaths occur in young adults who are otherwise healthy.

Epilepsy Bereaved (EB) is the only charity dedicated to research and prevention of SUDEP and other epilepsy deaths and the support and enablement of people affected by these deaths. The charity is funded mainly by bereaved families.

EB provides a contact line, enabling people bereaved by epilepsy related deaths to get initial support and information
EB provides support to people individually and/or in regional peer support groups to run public awareness and/or fundraising events
EB lobbies clinicians, health managers and politicians to inform and to increase awareness in order to reduce risk from epilepsy related death causes
EB campaigns for improvements to NHS epilepsy services and for the improvement of investigation after a death
EB conducts and funds research into the causes of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) and other epilepsy deaths.

Pete, Lian's father has organised this day of music, in memory of Lian, knowing that all funds raised will be put to good use.

Please see the following statement from Epilepsy Bereaved's Director Jane Hanna regarding Peter’s fundraising efforts:

'Epilepsy Bereaved would ask everyone to support Peter in raising awareness of SUDEP and raising funds for Epilepsy Bereaved..

The charity is funded mainly by bereaved families. Without the efforts of people like Peter and others we would be unable to do our work.

Research into the cause and prevention of SUDEP continues to be urgent. Our understanding of SUDEP has improved, but we still need to reduce the number of such deaths. We must continue to promote research into this neglected medical syndrome'.

Line Up:

The Targets - Loud, angst ridden mod punk. They do not want to change the world, just tell it like it is, convinced the grass is greener on the other side.

Shellsuit - The ex-postmen who arrived late but wiser, in an era where others promised nothing and delivered less. Basking in the beauty of their 1st album 'Walton Prison Blues' Shellsuit sing about life and it's characters, it's twists and turns. Delivered with a rare honesty and soul that you can almost reach out and touch.

Shack - Rare live performance from the legendary Liverpool band. Formed by the Head brothers, Mick and John, from the ashes of the Pale Fountains. With 5 critically acclaimed albums to their name, their cleverly understated melodic guitar pop has delighted their cult following since the late 80's. Liverpool's best kept secret, not to be missed.

Deadbeat Echoes - A gang of 4 teenage lads who take their influences from their dad's/brother's record collections and mix them with their own. The result is an enthralling mix of dark, psychedelic pop.

The Laurels - From the youth centers and drinking holes, via a time travel trip across the southern states of the US of A emerged the sound of the Laurels. Bluesy, indie rock with one foot in the past, the other striding effortlessly into the future.

The Crocodiles - The Deadbeats in disguise, paying tribute to one of their biggest influences Echo and the Bunnymen.

Jinx - Young local lads guaranteed to get the party going with classic covers of iconic bands such as The Beatles, The Kinks, The Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, or just about anything you want them to play!

Outdoor acoustic stage ft. Rob Metcalfe and Ian Scanlan (CalfScan), Jess Whitmore (The Targets), The Scoundrels, Skin Like Silk, plus more to be confirmed. And weather permitting.
