Rock music concerts on Blu-Ray?

Tired of discussing the Bunnymen and all the bands that have been influenced by them? This is the place for you.

Rock music concerts on Blu-Ray?

Postby Dr Evil » Sun Mar 14, 2010 2:42 am

People I have questioned seem to think this is a radical idea of mine, possibly too far ahead of it's time, along with my idea of burning instant DVD's/Blue Ray video of live concerts and selling them at the end of the gig, obviously for a share of the profits, though I am doing it free for five great upcoming acts just for the footage. Some people think this could be a viable business. What do you think?
The acts I am filming for free (Kate Stables, Rachael Dadd, Rozi Plain, Francois and the Atlas Mountains and Uncle Jellyfish) think the Blu-Rays could be a great promotional tool but question if people would pay a decent price considering that the blank disks are quite expensive next to DVD, and would eat into the profit margin. I really wish this technology had been around when the Bunnymen were at their peak.

I think it would be a viable business. I would like to have DVDs to the concerts that I attended.

So once you've seen something you never want to see it again? That must make day to day existence quite frustrating for you.

I think it's a great idea, I'd definitely buy any Bunnymen gigs on Blu-ray. Mind you, I have just bought their "Original Album Series" box, though I already have at least 3 copies of each of the albums already (came in a nice bubble-wrap envelope though, might get it framed) so I might not be representative.

Getting the disc on the night could certainly be a winner.

But if you want to see the Bunnymen show you've just seen, can't you simply go see them again?

isn't any problem likey to be with the bands themnselves and their 'quality' issues. Not about your filming and production but their performance? I've got a handful of music bids including POMW and porcupine and look at them once in a blue moon.

I'd buy them for all the charming between song banter from Ian.

How can you video the band when they're standing motionless in the dark?

Yet I would buy a copy for the witty banter and [s]bitching about[/s] shooting out of the lights. That act never gets old.

I suppose I could always switch to infra-red. Though Mac might object if I used terahertz imaging.Though the ladeeez might like the disk.
I am very happy to watch the gigs I have recently attended, which were so great that I am more stunned every time I watch them-I knew things were going great when I filmed them, but I didn't know just how great. Though I haven't carried out the plan for instant live DVDs and Blu-Rays yet, a survey of the crowd revealed that they would pay at least £40 if they could buy a recording on the spot, in contrast to £5 for pre-recorded (not live) CD's and £10 for pre-recorded records. Mind you, the acts I filmed ALWAYS deliver a stunning performance-think along the lines of the sheer professionalism of a band like Elbow, and one poster has a point that the Bunnymen don't always deliver. But personally, if someone had filmed the marvellous Brighton Concorde II gigs during the Flowers tour, I would have been prepared to pay £1000 for a single Blu-Ray or even DVD! Have any of the recent Bunnymen gigs even come close to that murderous form? The bands I recently filmed even equalled those gigs, and on one occasion exceeded them! And if you don't believe me, private message me and I will give you a screening in my home-I have a very nice wide-screen Phillips television, a monstrous cathode ray based (albeit standard definition) set which can still blow away any hi-def flat-screen LCD or Plasma, and it has sound to match the picture-CRT tubes have much better contrast ratio and colour than the new fangled flat televisions, and when I can afford it (after spending £1400 on my HD camera) I hope to get a high definition Cathode Ray based television-unless laser television or SED become affordable by then. Or perhaps I should hold out for a holographic television-I'm planning to film in 3D the next time. A system for domestic 3D on Blu-Ray disk is soon coming to the market.
P.S. if you are coming, bring a coat. The central heating has had to be disconnected due to a design flaw creating a puddle of condensation in the attic and nearly bringing the ceiling down. Talk about fur coat and no knickers! But anyone who sees my films will know that I have got my priorities right. Even though I have finally proved my time machine works, saving the world can wait, my films are even more important!
