what the sarge was doing while mac was making an album

General discussion about the band, live shows, its recordings or bootlegs, etc. You can buy, sell or trade here. You can even post eBay links. If it's about the Bunnymen, it goes here.

And you never know, the diversion (if thats what it is, for all we know he might have been doing this for years) might rekindle something or other. Or perhaps he just misunderstodd when the missus suggested, with all this time off he ws having he might do a bit of painting around the place. Who knows.

FC, that's classic! both of these were great for a laugh today. thank you. i don't know..when you see all of this talent (that has gone by the wayside for so long) you just wonder why things like this or other old pics never turned up in the album/cd covers as someone mentioned above. one of will's paintings could have been added in each of the releases. that would have been cool. kind of like a surprise of sorts.

i do like how this news turns up one day after the special mac show post (no details as of yet). a full-on production of art v. a one off show. that's pretty f'ing stellar!!

He does other stuff albeit less "Rothko"...

Seriously! Maybe he'll be doing the next one by popular demand...
He's definitely got a style of his own.
Great stuff.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

bit of a work in progress this, but anyway... - oh and a work of fiction obv, no relation to anyone living or creatively dead.

the scene - a smoky office, somewhere in liverpool.......

WS: How do mac, hows it going, la!
IM: Never mind that, where's yer bag of riffs for the new one?
WS: New one? Thought that was done a couple of years ago. Top ten hit by christmas you said.
IM: Did I bollocks, la! Now what you got.
WS: (sheepishly) well, I've been a busy like, doing a bit of painting.
IM: What? Paula been on yer back again about the kichen? Ever thought of trading her in? Oh that reminds me, me an Zo are having a sprog. I thought about 'Stevie? That works for a girl as well as a boy you know. Stevie Gerrard McCulloch. Got a ring to it La. Anyway, I digress. Wheres the riffs. Come to think of it. Wheres yer guitar?
WS: Well, like I said, I've been a bit busy.
IM:So no riffs then?
WS: No. Sorry.
IM: Well lucky for you I got some new mates. New mates who have riffs in abundenment. Riffs that the kids want. Riffs with bollocks. La! Just need to sprinkle the old mcculloch fairy dust over the top and....
WS: Oh, OK then. So is that it then? I'll get me stuff.
IM: COurse not. La. No fucker'll buy it without your mush on the front. So dont worry. All you have to do is turn up with your little blue lighty thing and your fringe.
WS: Oh, OK then. Right.
IM: Painting eh? Lets have a butchers then. hmm Stripes. Like it.
WS: Its for you that one. The least I could do.
IM: The very least. How true. However (studies the painting) Eh, nice one Sarge. Look good in the baby's room that one. WHats it called?
WS: Caligula.

drum roll tshhhhh.... the scene fades......

after thinking about over a bacon sandwich I think at the punchline, or just after the sarge says Caligula they both look at the camera and instead of a drum roll we play the Grange Hill music, i.e., the 'wa wa wa waaaaa'.

The cover art for Flowers is from a book called Wisconsin Death Trip. It's about a town in Wisconsin called Black River Falls during the Victorian period.

yes. i meant from a design perspective, not that he'd actually found two very odd people, asked them t pose in a boat while snapped away. presumably waygtd cover, which only has mac ob it was mainly macs idea. but who knows?

Flowers cover image came from a book called "Wisconsin Death Trip". The colorization and inside design was done by a graphics guy who has an office at Parr St. Also did that calendar they put out that year and the artwork for Live in Liverpool.

In about 2003, when I went over for the anti-war gig, I spent a couple days with Will - one of those days, we did a little walking tour of Liverpool - he showed me the prominent Bunnymen spots, etc. All the time, he was looking up at the buildings and the architecture - "that'd make a great album cover". An artists's vision, he has.

Ian would never use the word digress. Ruins an otherwise captivating and believable look into the world of IM and WS.

what if i put 'ironically' as a stage instruction, he might do that thing where a person wobbles their head, pauses, and then says the word in order to add some kind of comedic or even sarcastic emphasis. What about will? Maybe its a word he sues all the time and so mac's taking the piss. I'm not that attached to it so if it really offende I can think of another one, probably.
