Vampire Weekend--hear whole album for free

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

A couple of years back the UK had Foals who were essentially Vampire Weekend without the fondness for Paul Simon's Graceland and Peter Gabriels world music shite.

They came, caused a slight ripple and retreated to do their "difficult second album"

They must wonder why Vampire Weekend are amassing mountains of hype. Mind you so must XTC!
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

I think you might be onto something there. Also, later generations don't seem to get the post-punk thing with a few exceptions. There are lots of people into Depeche Mode, Muse and Franz Ferdinand who are channeling the post-punk sound.

I really don't care what they wear and don't see why it's an issue. But then, many had a rough time with that pretty-boy 80s hair metal or new romantic thing going on then.

I don't get the sheer hate they seem to stir up. It's just plain weird.

Most rockers can't seem to get along and break up around that "difficult second album." This is a second album for Vampire Weekend.

Really, if it's what they wear, that's lame.
They have more going on in that album than Peter Gabriel and Graceland.
If it's the name that gets you going, well, there are dumber names.
Echo & the Bunnymen didn't win any points for the name when they started.

I think all three bands - EATB, Blur and Vamp Weekend look sharp and find it very "cool."

This is the requisite clothing for indie hipster in the states now.

As you can see, Vamp Weekend is going against the grain and would receive condescending smirks (as these hipsters are unable to actually throw a punch) in American indie circles.

That hipster look is about right. they wear a hoodie over their heads for no apparent reason other than they think it looks cool.

BTW, Mac was wearing a hoodie in one of those 1978 pics from Eric's. He's come full circle.

What's with those "girl jeans"? Do they actually wear girl's jeans?

I actually liked the first album when it came out - http://forum.villiersterrace.com/viewtopic.php?t=452

Its fun in a summery, dont take it too seriously sort of way. The new one, however, is a pale imitation - they obviously want to escape the NY preppie ghetto but havent got the balls to pull it off. So the new album is an uncomfortable half way house that has some decent tunes but alot of filler.

However now I know you like them thats the final nail in their coffin.

Foals were Oxfords 'next big thing'. still doing the rounds I believe. In the unlikely event that your interested the current next big thing is a band called little fish. A bloke and a bird who've just recoprded their debut album with some famous producer in america. cant remember what her name is though. I only know that they are already being deserted by their fans for introducing a keyboard player (or was it a bassist) to their lineup thus distracting from the ting tings/white stripes bloke and a bird comparisons.

Yes I have. They are called skinny jeans aren't they? And you can buy them specifically for men. Actually, I bought a pair of secondhand brown 60s cords in the late 1990s from a 60s/70s-style clothing shop in Camden Market that were close to that style. I didn't bother to notice that they were like that when I tried them on. Once worn properly for the first time, I realised that I made a massive mistake, they looked kind of gay and were kind of revealing for the old tackle department. They were also rather uncomfortable and potentially dangerous especially with a zip fly that kind of had little forward room, so they were never worn again. I really don't know how those "hipsters" lot wear them without evoking some health and safety law. Either that or they have a miniscule cock.

the ones today have a bit of lycra for stretch, or at least the ones I've looked at do. I'd guess the guy jeans are the same?

My niece is 16 and she and some of her boy friends trade jeans. Tho it must be on the comical side for them, since she's 4 foot 10.

Am I right in guessing that, despite them being lame, you wish you could still fit into them?
