I saw Daniel Day Lewis last night in "There Will Be Blood"

He was incredible!!! He definitely should get an Oscar for his performance except I'm sure it will go to some Hollywood airhead instead.

saw it in London! was very good, but sad. i thought there would be a little more to it, actually. it jumped from scene to scene too quickly. but still good, for the music alone.

Hi Zabird! Finally got your pm on that "other" forum. I always forget to check.

Did you like the Jonny Greenwood score for the movie? I haven't heard music so intense since the "Shining"

I want to see There Will Be Blood so badly! I think its' only playing in the city now. I hope it will play in more theaters soon. Why do they limit the runs of really good movies???? Argh!

yes! friend and I were talking about that on the way out. too intense, almost. reminded me a bit of a score for a grand silent film, or maybe something noirish from the late '40s.

and talk about intense ... Eli. jesus christ!

Moondance, I feel your pain ... it's only playing at one theater in L.A. right now too.

The trailer was on for that before No Country. I think as far as my interest in movie style goes, this has been the best year for US movies since 93-94.

when my Husband first suggested seeing it, I thought great, an almost 3 hour movie about digging for California oil  It would be like the time he made me sit through another 3 hour movie with him that was all about the Battle of Guadalcanal!
But the time flew by!

Eli (Paul Dano) was intense! My Husband's friend , Michael Cuesta, directed a movie a while ago called L.I.E. which was about living by the Long Island Expressway while also living the LIE of sexual abuse. He cast Paul Dano in his first movie role.

Brad Pitt as Jesse James is nothing compared to Daniel Day Lewis who I think has done only something like 8 movies? That's what makes this a good American movie. The main star isn't one.

Happy, healthy 2008 everyone!

Jane - the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer was Nick Cave's "And The Ass Saw The Angel."
Not in that the stories would be the same, but I sensed the same intensity of story.

YEAH! Nick Cave!

And who would have thought so much intensity would have come from the Director of "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia"?

I'm a bit late as always but "No Country..." was amazing. Saw it last night. Bought the book today at lunch and have been sneaking in some quality reading time since then.

I think when the movie ended I actually said "what the fuck?" out loud. Apologies to anyone in the audience.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts
