Did Julian Cope really steal Mac's songs leading to the rivalry that exists.

The Songs Spacehopper, Books and Robert Mitchum

The songs both musically and lyrically lend themselves to the Teardrop Explodes.

Or is tte whole affair just another myth

Copey admits it with Books. Possible with the others. They were working TOGETHER for awhile before they hated each other. Going their separate ways was the best thing that could have happened.

Listen to The Teardrop compilation "Zoology" their is a very rough version of "Read It In Books" by a Shallow Madness with Mac singing whilst Copey plays Bass.... I think we can safely assume they co wrote it......

When I read Head On, the source of the hatred between the two became clear -- Cope f*cked Ian's sister and then broke her heart. It's a case of the brother sticking up for his little sister. The song stealing helped too.

Well then Mac's a good (older?) brother.

I think when bands/friends/etc are jamming sometimes ideas come out and you can't really be sure who they came from. But then you have situations like Prince. Early in his career he lost some talented band members because they felt he was taking credit one time too many and doing it knowingly.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I was watching a copy on Ebay this week but I'm too tight to pay the £25 or so that its selling for these days.

Mac dated someone's sister for awhile too...and Cope made some comment about Mac getting laid more than he did. FUUUUUNNNYY!!

Cope treated his first wife like shit and then actually wrote about it. Mac mentioned it, but then treated his own wife rather badly. Maybe they are cut from the same cloth.

I think I'm allergic to my copy. seriously, makes my eyes sting. Don't know if it's the ink or the paper. Happened when I was in school too, only then no one believes you because it's school.
