This lady ordered one of our programs (a decade old software that is extremely stable on both Mac and Windows) and placed her order incorrectly getting the regular retail boxed version which you can't use until it arrives instead of ordering the download+CD option. Typically the customer is shit out of luck but I was bored and feeling sympathetic so I sent her a download and a serial number in essence giving her a second copy of the program (which got me a lecture). She e-mails back "Thank you, thank you!!!" and I figure that's my good deed for 2010. I just checked my work e-mail and this was waiting for me from the same lady.

Okay, so I've used the software for 2 days straight for 14 hours or more each day and night and it's crashed on me 4 times, completely LOST or CORRUPTED ALL of my data EACH time, and corrupted EACH AND EVERY EXAMPLE TEMPLATE that it was supposed to come with. I am VERY pissed off right now. I have lost a TON of f**king work that I entrusted to this "supposedly" "great" piece of sh*t software. I WANT EVERY PENNY OF MY MONEY REFUNDED, AND I WANT IT REFUNDED RIGHT NOW.

First off I know it's not our software being we don't get reports like this ever AND she couldn't even get her order right.

Second off I went out my way to fix her fuck up, got a lecture from my boss for my effort (knowing full well it was coming) and despite what she thinks of the software, in no way should she speak to someone whose only mistake was going above what was required of me to help her out (from a mistake of her own doing n o less).

I plan on being professional in my response but I will probably point out to her it's considered bad form to speak to someone in that manner who had only been trying to help.

Oh well. At least I have you guys.

That being said a woman who was ordering software for her husband in Iraq as a Christmas present did start crying when I told her we wouldn't be charging her and to consider it a thank you to her husband from us. That was pretty gratifying even though I damn near started crying with her.

The owners haven't caught that one yet so I think I got away with it.

Bit of bad form there though. Not your fault at all and she obviously went overboard through the e-mail. Perhaps she's missing her hubby and you were on the receiving end?

No matter, if his boss stumbles across it and calls him for a chat about his conduct on the Internet, Black Francis can just raise the issue of his/her lunchtime internet activities.

In all seriousness though, there are people who have been suspended or sacked for commenting on Facebook about their work or boss, or detailing confidential company information (including e-mails) on the Internet. Then there's the people who use their company e-mails to send an e-mail to a friend slagging off their bosses or places of work. Then they wonder why they have been sacked afterwards and complain how unfair it was that other people within the company were reading their "private" e-mails..
