Apparently so...

I'm going to need two more confirmed instances where Will claims he and Mac have always been the primary force behind the Bunnymen. He doesn't have a history (that I'm aware of) of belittling the other band member's contributions so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me this time.

Plus it's a Chinese article. Might be some stuff that didn't come across properly.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Of course Mac and Will were the primary force behind the band. That does not belittle the other band members, nor does it mean they were not indispensable. They can't all be the primary force, can they?

I'm not arguing the fact Mac and Will were the primary creative force behind the band, I just am not aware of Will making that claim previously and even so it's not as bad as what Mac said about Les and Pete in that four part interview.

Nice use of italics though Jack. You really hammered home your point.

This is why I cannot bring myself to go see them again. Is this version awful? No, but where the hell is the fire or energy? I know it could never be the same without Pete and Les not there, but come on............play the fucking songs like they mean something to you.

Listen to The Chameleons or Radiohead-the rhythm section is vital! Pete and Les were the Bunnymen's balls. Without them they are neutered. Radiohead are rich because they never engaged in this sort of back-stabbing. Never mind Pete and Les, I sometimes get the impression that Will got treated like a dog, but for some reason Mac is being nice to him now.
Even the highly melodic Future-Folk acts that I am now into are even more powerful with a strong drummer during a full band set.

Probably the best description of Les and Pete ever.

Bloody hell it was only a sound check! It's a bit harsh to say they should be playing like the did at the Albert Hall in '83!

I've got to agree with that.
But my two cents - someone in the band never makes it to soundcheck...
weird. must not need it.

I quite like Going Up live as done on the soundcheck. It's more closer to the original album version recording than the RAH one. That is the only song out of the chicken in the basket tours that I haven't seen performed live that I would still quite like to hear.

The RAH one though is clearly superior and also lacks a woman in her early 20s "getting" or should that be "wetting" into the music. That's enough to get my vote.
