For the love of sanity...

Most of you people are so hell bent on discrediting Mac that you don't even make any sense.

Diva Diana you even quote that bands split songs evenly when they don't have to - HELLO!

Just because Les came up with the bass line on bed bugs a songwriter he does not make.

Now before everyone gets their knickers in a huge knot...

No one is discrediting Les & Pete - it is just a dig at the people who over credit them and slag off Mac.

Mac doesn't slag them off - in fact if anyone does the slagging it is Les.

Being in a band aint easy especially if you write the lyrics, melody and chords and are the lead singer who is the one every one is going to want to interview.
Also the one that every leach out there is going to indulge and keep in a false sense of security so every one else can benefit .

Melody, lyrics and chords legally gives you 100% of a song .

So a lot of the time it is split to keep the peace and to also acknowledge a musicians and the arrangements contribution to the song.

There is no disputing that the sound that was the bunnymen when Les & Pete were there was unique but unfortunately Pete is gone and he was responsible for Les sounding so good. Mac is right when he speaks so highly of Petes drumming - he was magic.
Les was good but Pete was the stand out and like any good drummer made his bass player sound great.

When they are great the demons come in.

So maybe a little perspective on Mac.

By the way thanks for the kind private messages.

Is it the official "slag Les off Week?" He sounded pretty fucking good last month and (sadly of course) Pete was not on drums.

Welcome, no hoper. I hope you continue to post.

Your observation above is unfortunately very true. I like to think that since the folks on the forum don't depend on Ian for their livelihood or other stuff..., we tend to be more vocal and cut through the bullshit when discussing the band and its output.

There is no slagging of Les - just trying to put things in perspective, maybe if you read things properly you could have greater perspective too Voodoo Billy.

I am more than happy Les still sounds good he deserves it.

When it comes to slagging I think there are others out there who really love to find any way to slag off Mac - maybe you could have another forum purely for that purpose.

People can't remain gods forever.

There are singers out there who don't smoke dont drink etc and they will never reach the heights of Mac - even the way he sounds now, which on a good day he still sounds great.

I thought it might have been this Peter Byrne chap (below), who undertook various expeditions in the US from the 1950s onwards to find the elusive and mystical BigMac, I mean Bigfoot.

Hooray at last , somebody who actually knows what they are talking about.

For those of us who support the bunnymen in their endeavours (instead of most of the shite continually regurgitated on here) a big thank you to No Hoper which I am sure he isn't.

Finding this forum is like finding my spiritual home - other people who can't let go of the 80's.

Reading other posts I totally agree with you on the strong views of others about the bunnymen.

Of course we could all manage them better. What an easy gig.

They should listen to what you all are saying - you have all the answers and no experience in the music business.

It is so dissappointing that the bunnymen being the biggest influence of huge bands like the Killers and Coldplay still release new material and are still being creative when all we really want is for them to replicate Crocodiles & Ocean Rain.

I mean how dare they!

We want Mac to stay 25 so we aren't reminded that we too are getting old.

Doesn't he realise that by growing as an artist and pursuing solo efforts we are going to bring him down for it as we have nothing better to do than bitch and point the finger every time he reminds us that he too is mortal.
He must be the only person on earth who struggles with addiction - what a tool.

God why can't time stand still and les & pete be credited for everything?

How dare Mac split songs 4 ways when he didn't have to so they are credited and made money.

what a prick!

Just because we dont know the basic structure of how songs are split lets just put it all down to the fact that Les & pete are the geniuses and Mac isn't.
Les wrote some pretty timeless lyrics there.

Anyway great forum really glad you all exist out there.

Long live the 80's!

Just signed up to finally get the chance to say - THANKS NO HOPER - It's about time someone spoke some fucking sense on this forum.

It's a bizarre scenario to create a forum that seems set on permanently attacking and running down the central talent (MAC) that has kept producing amazing music for 30 years.
It's a respect and a common decency thing. All the members mentioned were/are amazing talents. There needs to be more mutual respect all around, them toward each other and from the "fans."

If you don't like the post-reunion stuff as well as the early years, fair fucking enough.
But find a new drum to beat.
I too adore the glory years, but I get a lot more out of the poetry of the latter stuff as a person of maturing years myself. "How can the words not be the first thing that gets you about a song?"

It must be damn annoying to have a near perfect band whose most devoted fans are the ones who make a fucking hobby of being armchair "expert" critics - of music and even your personal life.

In closing my rant, let me add - Will's no fucking saint either; Slideling and WAYGTDWYL are sublime; and I feel ever so much better.

You all poke a lot of fun, sometimes mean-spirted, at everyone and everything else; let's see that critical eye turned on this forum itself.

Paradoxically, I've enjoyed and been annoyed by this forum for ages.
Cheers to all!

Same one word again (see above).

Mr. Brian, did you not pay the bill from Norton/McAfee this month? Can you do something about this onslaught of large amounts of propoganda, because I am having difficulties locating the usual pockets of humor one could previously stumble upon in here. Alright, it was always difficult, but now it is much worse.
