Bunnymen soundboard recording from 1999

Postby Mr. Brian » Tue Jan 12, 2010 10:45 pm

Nice setlist, includes Loose and Fish Hook Girl. I have not heard it yet (downloading now) but the person's notes who recorded it make it sound pretty good since it was recorded from the house systems recording console. I'm kind of surprised Rust isn't in the set.

07 Bring On The Dancing Horses
08 Back Of Love
09 What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?
10 Fools Like Us
11 The Killing Moon
12 I Want To Be There (When You Come)
13 Altamont
14 The Cutter
15 Lips Like Sugar

Encore 1:
16 Nothing Lasts Forever
17 Do It Clean > Elvis impersonation > Roadhouse Blues (Doors cover)

Encore 2:
18 Villiers Terrace
19 Over The Wall
20 Summer Wind (Frank Sinatra cover - a cappella)
21 Ocean Rain

NOTES: This is my personal DATmaster from the show. Weeks before this show I contacted the band's manager by email to ask permission to tape from the soundboard and to my surprise he replied that it would be OK. He gave me his contact info and told me to ask for him at the door. I flew into Vegas for this show with my stealth mics in case it didn't work out but I actually found him at the venue and he set me up with the sound guy who instead of letting me plug into the mixing desk outputs actually just popped my blank DAT tape into the house system which was already configured to record. Needless to say, I was stunned. He also provided me with a backstage pass to meet and greet after the show with the band...best taping experience ever. I have given this out a few times over the years but now hopefully enough time as passed to give it the distribution it deserves. Excellent soundboard and balanced recording...this sounds as good as an official release. No post-processing has been done on this recording.

I've tried but never managed to master the art of downloading torrents. Consequently, my membership to dimeadozen has long expired. The joy was simply scrolling through pages of music I would love to have and listen to. Anyone have a link to easy tutorial on the subject? Perhaps it is good that I can't download off of that site since I would be spending more hours just sitting in front of this screen. It would only fuel the addiction.

Forgive me for I have sinned. I just bought a general admission ticket to see U2 here in Denver this coming June.

When I was recently recording a video of some amazing new artists, I hassled them to record directly from the mixer, but it turned out that the Dolby 5.1 set of microphones in the (expensive) HD camera provided a studio quality recording anyway. On the other hand, this was in a small venue without the ear splitting amplification, and I am thinking about getting a microwave link from the mixer to my camera. But would it be less expensive to make a separate live multi-track recording and then use software to sync it to the video?

Frank is furiously masturbating right now having just been given permission.

This will help him along so he can get to converting the file ASAP

It's here too http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K7YNJZVE

I only listened to parts of this. I have it on my iPod for my drive tomorrow but I like what I heard so far. Fish Hook Girl sounds like a completely different band (in a good way) and Mac's voice is so obviously different from 10 years ago. Some of those songs from Evergreen and WAYGTD have not been played in a very long time too so it was good to hear them. Nice set and recording.

Thanks Mr. Brian. It's nice to hear Loose, FHG and Fools Like Us.

I was also struck by how pleasant it was to listen to him sing when he still had some range and he wasn't always suffering from laryngitis, like he is these days. Some of the current live stuff is painful to listen to. (See Zimbo at Webster Hall on Youtube.) I can't imagine how literally painful it is to sing when his throat is that inflamed.

Excellent recording! Thank you Mr. Brian! Another fix for a special evening in the future.

What a difference 10 years can make when it comes to Ian's voice and their performance style!

Who's got that picture of Ian dressed as Elvis? Needs some cover art!

Seems like a novel way to power a PC.
