Take this bass line out and you have a song from The Fountain.

The endurance is killer, I can only play it with a pick and it's still hard. Les played Crocodiles for 7 minutes at Royal Albert Hall.

Well, other than Mac who could be a nitwit about alot of things... (God love him.)

There was a great deal of interplay between the four of the them and it just doesn't happen without all four. But Les is amazing.

Have a listen to Watch Out Below from the Peel Sessions. What Les did with it was fab. Early version of the Yo-Yo Man? It's really an orphan.

Bedbugs and Ballyhoo was seriously his song and started with his bass riff. But even when he came up with a simple line like in A Promise, so much had to do with his dedication to playing it well.

PS No good pics of him at the Wild Swans gig. This one was the best.

Yep killer!! Don't worry, Les often played with a pick.
Wait--is that you? In the video I mean?

He 's still pure class. I watched from stage-side at Static last week where Les (and later) Will were playing and he puts his all into his bass playing. Top man that Mr Pattinson. (sorry that the photos are slow appearing, I'm waiting for my 10 year old to get them off the i-phone - maybe get a chance Friday if the Christmas viewing is tedious).
Purveyor of the 'semi-predictable one-liner (which) embodies the essence of the type of comedic crap we grew to love here. VB is a crazy fool'

Someone posted on the BOF years ago that it was best that Les was no longer playing with the band as his replacement seemed much more enthusiastic or something like that.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Just because I praised Peter Wilkinson for a stupendous effort on the Flowers tour does not mean the creative input from Les was replacable.
