Bunnymen Liverpool-last night

Postby Dave Smith » Sun Dec 20, 2009 5:05 am

Right.

Head to Liverpool and park up at Lime St.Bloody freezing.Go to nearest pub the 'Head of Steam' that confuses half the blokes by having a code with a lock on the loos.Start drinking.Still cold.Support or more beer?Beer.

Head to venue for about quarter to nine.Obligatory wait for band who come on at half nine. They rip into Rescue and Macs jiggling like the old days. And seemingly a little worse for wear. But Sarge is in class form, bashing his guitar like its going out of fashion. But the mix is great and the band sound really good.We get SOS,Stormy,Zimbo,Bedbugs,Do it Clean,Horses,Jazz,Rust,et all intersperced with MAc's cabaret."Will should be knighted......sod Sir Paul McCartney" and "I told my mate not to go to Portsmouth"etc..

Then Shroud of Turin starts and Mac by now is in full rambling and jiggling mode.Into the chorus he twizzles, slips and looking a bit pissed (and from where I was standing) falls back on his arse between the keyboards and drums!Never let it be said BUnnymen gigs are boring. But back to the song-it sounded alive and vibrant and its just a shame they didnt play more off the Fountain.

Encores of Over the Wall,NLF and a really too long rambling Lips then back into the night to find snow covered Birmingham.

So..another good night.Oh and Les Dennis is appearing in High School Musical at the Empire.

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the better times

He seemed to disappear from view but kept on singing.

He did.lol.If you noticed when he fell backwards,a big cloud of dry ice came across the stage to cover it up.He then sat next to the drums and started singing. So all you could see was little outline and a mic.It looked like Jimmy Krankie fronting the Sisters of Mercy!

I couldn't see where he was by then as I'd gone to the bar at the back of the room, there was just a gap centre stage from what I could see. The Jimmy Krankie vision will stay with me always.

to be suing to the tune of Dancing Horses

Jimmy Krankie
on the ground
slipped on the stage
and then fell down

Damo turn of the bleeding projector
it's shining in me eyes
people can see
me face
and I can't fucking stand that

First I'm gonna shake it then I'll f'ckng break if its not turned off
not turned off

Ah bless mac -- he really does dislike those lights -- I thought Mac was in flying form though he is a grumpy fucker

I was standing right behind the lighting engineer (Damo) on Saturday night and I thought he did a magnificant job .. what is Macs issue with the lights ??? and he can rant all night at the guys down at the mixing desk - it is hard to understand what he wants cos of his mumble.

Still I enjoyed the gig and thought the bunny's had a great energy that I have not seen in a while -- stormy weather was excellent for once and shroud of turin is an angry song

Wouldn't be the first time he fell--Santa Barbara comes to mind. Wish I had been there in SB. I'm still wondering if it was at the Granada which I also performed in or if it was at the Anacapa.

But really, he ought to be careful. Steve Tyler of Aerosmith fell off the stage and decided to quit.

When they did Dancing Horses was it with the whole orchestra? That would have been beautiful. I always did love that song just because it's pretty--though the Jimmy Brown version is more them.
