Meeting Ian

Another reason why I did not bother going to the Webster Hall show was that I had already sunk all my pennies into a trip to Liverpool to see EATB perform all three nights. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I expect many to think I'm nuts. Although it is an extravagant trip, it's not unlike my other adventures to exotic outdoor locations, this being an adventure exploring the heights of my emotions.

Liking challanges, I found the following picture book on Ebay a couple weeks ago:

Image

This is what the seller had to say about it:

HERE WE HAVE AN AUTOGRAPHED COPY OF THE BUNNYMEN PICTURE BOOK FROM THE 1984 OCEAN RAIN TOUR. I MET THEM WHEN THEY PLAYED IN SOUTHEND....GOOD PEOPLE...THEY GAVE ME AND MY DOG A LIFT ON THEIR COACH! WHILST TALKING TO THEM I GOT PETE, LES AND WILL TO AUTOGRAPH THIS PICTURE BOOK. MAC WAS EATING HIS BREAKFAST (CHIPS!!) SO I DID'NT GET HIS. THE BOOK HAD SOME DRINK SPILLED ON THE FRONT COVER (I THINK IT WAS LES?)

My challange is to meet Ian during one of the three nights in Liverpool and get him to sign it, adding his autograph to the book 25 years after the other three origanl band members signed it.

What are your suggestions for meeting Ian? Waving it in his face all night long from up front? Jumping up onto the stage? Meeting him at the back exit after the show? Paying one of the event staff to get me back stage? Giving it to an attractive woman who might have a better chance getting backstage? Along with all your amusing suggestions that I'm sure will follow, I'm hoping there will be a few that I might actually be able to implement.

A pack of ciggies and some bevvy for him as you wait by the stage door? That is a cool story though--everyone signed it but Mac and now you have to find him.

Whatever you do, don't wander into his dressing room and use his bathroom.

After gig party?

Failing that I would wear a wig and some make-up.

Maybe tuck the weiner between your legs for no unsightly bulges.

Yeah, those are your best bet. Definitely go with one of those.

Did you cancel your health insurance to take this trip?

I heard that there may be an after show party at the KOROVA Saturday night where Will may DJ. I'm waiting for more details. The only problem with any of the ideas that involve something after the show is that I'm generally at my "worst": emotionally deflated while still buzzing. I'll leave the building to make for the rear stage exit only to find myself standing near the docks.

Go for it! I support you 100%. Have a nice afternoon nap so you have the energy. I'm sure if you mentioned it to someone at the door, they would help you out--25 years to get complete signatures, that's a hoot!!! Get a picture, too. I have a friend who runs a column, I will try and get the story in.

PS If you are single, I think you are the man for me. If not, I'm a sincere admirer.

Ah, if only the typing suffers, it's fine
