Interview with Les

Postby DivaDiana77 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 3:54 pm

Not sure if this was posted before. Haven't finished reading as it's quite long. He talks about the behind the scenes stuff quite a bit. How great Pete was, how bored he and Will were, etc...

"because of the circumstances in which I left, and I had to leave, Mac was being totally ruthless in a horrible way, instead of us writing music together, he was just trying to get his name on everything, and hustle people out of the music side of things. ... He just wanted to re-write the history books, and put his name on everything. And I found out - due to certain circumstances - it was such a horrible way in which he'd done it."

Nothing changes, good old Mac.

I think it's sadly safe to say he's done with being a Bunnyman both personally and professionally. But I don't think it's just Mac based on this interview. He also said he has an image issue with being an old rock-n-roller. I mean, if he had the energy to go at it with Mac, things might have been different, but it's all in a backdrop of some fairly stressful family issues. Child custody is fairly serious and if he had fought for full custody, running around on tour is not the way to keep it. Also, he obviously loved him mum. He's possibly going to get some kind of pension from having been a boat builder and who would want to lose that at this point? The guy seems practical to the core--except for acting like a dog on occasion.

I guess we shouldn't have been too surprised when Mac claimed Pete and Les had nothing to do with the songwriting.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

seriously. It's crap is what it is. They wrote stuff as a unit with each contributing a valuable part. That's what Mac said here: "It's the stuff we wrote together that people remember..."

well that comes across but he seems to have got over that, according to this thread, where he's alleged to have turned down the albert hall gig but plays with simmo.

stardom would be pushing it a bit really wouldn't it? and who do you mean? les or mac? les seems far too pragmatic for 'stardom', even in the early days, wsn't it him who got the van and got them there and back again, while mac was practicing seeing in the dark with his shades on and backcombing the fuck out of his barnet.

Well, someone ought to ask the man--go to a Wild Swans gig and corner him. Let us know what he says.

Simpson takes up the story: “Since Pete de Frietas died, Will has been my greatest ally with my music, the only one of my higher profile musician friends to be publicly vocal in his support.
“He knew we needed a bass player and suggested Les Pattinson. I rang Les on his mobile and he surprised me by saying ‘yes’ straightaway. This was miraculous when you bear in mind that he had refused to play The Royal Albert Hall Ocean Rain anniversary gig with the Bunnymen not long before.”

The recruitment of Pattinson, essentially retired from the music business since the late 90s, creates an extra buzz around the event of the Wild Swans’ return.

Maybe it just feels different. Close to home, not as demanding, having your contributions valued, .they've known each other since they were very young..and Will has been at the gigs DJing...

And here's flattering quote:
“This line-up is fantastic,” he continued. “I know that I am in very safe hands with the rhythm section and that's important when you are a front man

If Mac were gracious like this...things might be different.
