I found this very useful thought others might be entertained and enlightened. I've already found out a few things the hard way. Take heed from my epic fail.

I've also just discovered why LA slang is so strange:

Hmmm...I think that depends on the verbiage used. Occasionally using a slang word is fine, but if one is completely unintelligible to outsiders of the group, that's another story. Peppering speech with swear words is even beyond slang. Out here in America we've had so many movements with their own slang it becomes quite bizarre. Valspeak of the 80s did make it into movies and was popularized that way. But then there have been so many others. Every decade seems to have its own thing.

I used to get in trouble at this one job I had for saying "like" instead of "about" when giving an estimate. Whatever.

I am pretty sure slang among every generation teens among different economic and cultural groups stretches beyond America's border.

Well, yes, of course. I was just saying that even in America different regions have had different slang. It's just that LA slang has a way of making it into the movies because that's where the movie execs/writers & their kids are. There was some big hipster thing for awhile that is based in NYC though I admit I don't really get it. Brits have really wild slang (to me) and I'm sure some of ours is really bizarre.

Here's something amusing, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer one of the vampires was British and he always gave two fingers to people. Got past the censors every time.
