For me, a great place to start is Peggy Suicide (1990) & Floored Genius (1992). Mad as.

Then, in no particular order, Fried (1985), World Shut Your Mouth (1984-5), Jehovakill (1992), Skellington Chronicles (1985-93) Droolian (1990), Autogeddon (1994), Interpreter (1997) Rome Wasn't Burned in a Day (2003) Citizen Cain'd (2005-6) Floored Genius 2, Rite 1&2 (if you can get em)

Then, if you get sucked in... 20 Mothers (1995) Black Sheep (2008) You Gotta Problem With Me (2006) Rite 3, Queen Elizabeth 1&2, Dark Orgasm (2005)

The rest (and there are a fair number) is up to you

You win a prize for spotting the deliberate mistake - I of course mean My Nation Underground...

Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

100%, "Reynard the Fox" is Copey's "Killing Moon". And if you're in a late '80's indie disco mood (and can still get into a pair of leather kecks) Saint Julian's also worth a listen.

As a starting point I'd suggest Floored Genius - The Best of Julian Cope and The Teardrop Explodes. This will give you a taste of the Teardrops and also some highlights from his solo career, including Reynard the Fox and the epic Safesurfer.
Passionate Friend (teardrops) is said to be written about Mac's sister.

But that's just a starting point. If you like him, you'll find the real treasures are the deeper album tracks from the suggestions other people have made above.

An absolutely beautiful song. The woman reminds me of Sean Young.

What kind of bike is that?

legend - or maybe even books - have it he liked ducattis - i'd guess as a bike type bloke he wouldn't have been open to riding something else just for a video. and hey - jules might not have pushed it for fear of losing a vital source of ILOVESUASAGES. (see what i did there? ho ho) . as for the song, yes lovely words and feel to it but he still sounds like he's got a tampon stuck up his nose. and i know it was the eighties but his currently favoured) little policemans helmet wouldn't fit on that hair now would it. isn't he a bit more back to basics with his production values these days?

Scouser wrote:I dont entirely disagree Chezza. Cope does have an annoying twatness about him, but its often offset by his wit and intellegence. Mac is also an annoying twat which is pretty much not offset by anything (except Will).

Well, maybe Lorraine, but I'm not sure. When he did did say some really stupid things she actually asked him "What the f--- are you doing?"

Apparently being a twat is part of being from Liverpool and it makes for an interesting reading when they publish memoirs. It makes reading Julian's a bit more enticing. Maybe I'll want to shag him after that, though I don't date druggies.

So, I know that the album is actually called "Everybody Wants to Shag" but it's much funnier to say "Everybody Wants to Shag the Teardrop Explodes." ;)

Now, Let's don't cut each other up over the music.
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

You cheeky cow, I've never been so insulted! (Well actually I have but for the purposes of this post let's pretend I'm outraged).
Do you fully understand the implications of calling someone a twat?
