Maps

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

I think someone mentioned them here before. This band came up on my Slacker radio and I really liked it so I checked out some more. I am really enjoying these guys and I like the whisper talk of the singer. They seem to be influenced by a lot of bands I also enjoy.

copy/paste the link, this forum doesn't seem to like the (parentheses) in the address.

They're no Girls or Comsats
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Only have heard three songs but I am always a fan of synthy 80s synth and breathy vocals.

Alright - heard the ones on myspace - def. purchase.

I bought Turning The Mind listens it kind of sucks. The lyrics are cringing. And, though I was excited about this at first, there are lush synths it ends up sounding like Eurotrash.

It is like hearing Fatboy Slim at a party. It sounds great but then you get the cd and are bored listening to it alone at home. The sound samples of We Can Create seem better.

The songs just keep reminding me of:

I quite enjoyed it but I will admit that listening to all the lyrics is not something I tend to do when I hear music. I tend to listen to the overall sound of the song and the tone of the singer. I am often disappointed once I really do listen to the lyrics of almost any song. "Oh that's what he's saying?" happens a lot when I have my epiphanies.

It's probably why as an amateur musician and former band member I just can't remember lyrics either. When I was in my last band, there was one song I sang and I had to have a cheat sheet for a 3 minute song just to get through it.

Ok - when I shell out cahs for a cd I want to like the music.

I have it the car and keep listening. I also read the lyric sheet. The lyrics are actually better than I had thought. That SNL vid and being exhausted made my initial listen quite critical.

Right offf - track #3 is TERRIBLE. That really is the SNL song.

The music sounds better but I still think it is ok. The second half of the songs are what prevent it from being a throwaway. Old school Visage, recent Ulrich Schnauss and of course Depeche Mode set the bar which prevents me from feeling this deserves accolades.

There was also a local band Sleeping Kings of Iona that did this same thing with a little less club beat that causes this to pale.

What keeps me coming back? The lush synths. Anyone who dablles is in making music use the program Reason 4.0? The synths are amazing and it sounds like they were used on this.

Same here re Maps.My mate gushes over it so I bought it.He said "first track is the worst".I said "first track is the best".Some of it descends into Faithless style nausea. That track three is dreadful.I sort of like it but cant listen to the whole album in one go.

I really like some of the music but not the vocals. I think they'd sound better just instrumental.

See that's what I am saying, to me the whisper sung lyrics are just part part of the whole song and just part of the instrumentation. The lyrics themselves are just secondary.
