Golden Compass

Postby withahip » Mon Dec 10, 2007 6:45 pm

Well there's two hours of my life I will never get back. For six year olds on barbituates it may be something worth seing- as much cgi and bad acting as Star Wars Episode III
Story was so rushed all I could think was, "This should had gone straight to video . . .game." And don't look for James Bond - he is in the beginning and end. Only.

But it is nice to see the Coca-Cola bear getting work . .

Maybe with a kid it will be cool. You know, seeing it through their eyes.

I read the books a few years ago, and they struck me as more anti-religion that outright atheistic. The philosophy of the books definitely subscribes to at least a type of spirituality.

Like everything else its had to be diluted for the American market. Why cant it be called Northern Lights? Cant the Americans understand that concept?
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

If this was intended for art houses and not the Super Duper Mega Movie chain then I'll bet it would not have been "diluted", but you have to please Topeka and NYC when you do a major release in the US. That's a wide range of belief systems to cover.

The series was originally entitled "The Golden Compass Says..." and was later changed to "His Dark Materials" with the blessings of the UK publisher, but not until after the US publisher had already settled on the title "The Golden Compass."

Despite the fact that the US title actually pre-dates the eventual UK title, how would "Golden Compass" represent a dilution of "Northern Lights" anyway???

There goes Jack acting he's like one of the good ones. You're no Gwyneth Paltrow or Madonna dude so give it up. You're just like the rest of us.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

A concept. Like Rush's 2112 album. Right?
