black francis wrote:As far as marketing goes I would ditch the "take an Amazon review from KoK and encourage forum members to ostracize him" plan off the table, offer a free live album on the website, have contests, more involvement from the band members on the website (live chat, forum activity, etc) and they could use more website only content such as fan interviews of the band (fan submitted questions), free downloads of demos, alternate, live, etc. versions of songs, etc that will never be up for sale (and not some shitty ABBA/Bunnymen remix). Offer $5.00 download albums of songs not used on the albums. Fan remixes. But mainly just quit shooting themselves in the foot. They created enormous goodwill from the first batch of OR shows which should have seen them follow up right away with The Fountain while there was a buzz about them.

i agree with all of this. i think they are missing a lot of opportunities for exposure and money for the band. they need to use the internet more for promotion. don't post snippets of new songs for fear they will get leaked/stolen online. everything is leaked/stolen online. just accept it. instead, offer free downloads of new/special tracks for fan club/forum members only.

use twitter/facebook/myspace to promote the band better and actually interact with the fans that they have on these sites. maybe offer the odd one-off when they're bored... "Will is at the pub, first to come buy him a pint gets a free copy of the new CD, signed by Will if he's in a good mood."

i also think the merchandise is a little lacking. the fountain shirts are ok, but the stuff on the regular store is mediocre at best. they should bring back a lot of the old designs & reprints. they could offer a contest for fans to design a shirt for the tour too. I've seen some really cool fan-designed shirts at shows.

good ideas BF. maybe they'll hire you

I've been lurkin on this bleedin forum for months now, sat in me Bow Bell residence, and i've got to say im facking ashamed.

KOK - You've got more rabbit than sainsburys, but no bleedin spell checker ave yer son? never mind yer bleedin lar-de-da "mother my dog" bunnymen this, management bleedin that, not like it was in my day, moany moany, lambeth walkin apples & pears.
Never mind it son. It's the jouney of songs so Mac says, and so thats it. Journey of songs? Journey of fackin.. sorry couldnt think of anything that ryhmes with "songs" that is fitting for the end of that sentence. Really, I couldn't.

My ultimate line-up would be Peasy on Lead Guitar, my mate "Fingers" on bass (he's done time, mind), Ken Dodd on drums and, of course, Ian McCulloch on the vocals/harp.

More salt & vinegar? No, chief, more bleedin lettuce for you from the looks of it. Get on that rowing machine or do a bit of vigourous lambeth walkin.

Now, a little about me - Cockney, 94, dead.

Favourite bunnymen song - Broke me bleedin neck
Favourite Les Pattinson occupation - Boat Building in preston
Favourite Will Sergeant Sandwich - Bacon

Hello Lancs btw.

Toodle pip.

The Bunnymen organization just seems to have a deserving sense about them. Sort of like "build it and they will come". They really squandered the opportunities around all the Ocean Rain hoopla. All that media attention and they did nothing with it. They could have released an EP of new material then and offered all kinds of things for free online.

You should have seen what I was going to post, it went on and on....

Well, they used to get into that stuff naming their tours, printing new shirts for tours, etc. If they had t-shirts with the Rabbit God on them, I would snap on up.

What you are looking for is happening with bands like Switchfoot--they exploit new media for maximum exposure. Likeable guys even if their music is mostly predictable. If anyone watched the interview with Ian, he said he really can't figure out computers and where the cursor goes. Damn funny.

He's not wrong. Mac on Jew's harp. The fucking sex.

I'd have Don Estelle on lead guitar. He won't have decomposed too bad as yet.
