I was laid off in 2001 from a start up company. Thank God I was one of the first to go. I got paid for
some of my back pay. I was even quoted in the paper on the "start up that ended badly".

Start up or not, the owners were disingenuous and frivolous with the money that they were getting as capital. For example, we got a company paid lunch every Wednesday and they started hiring certain people way too early that had very non-essential functions while we had to beg for money to replace modems for customers using our product. We just figured they knew what they were doing. The ones that stayed behind practically worked the whole summer with no pay, just promises.
I will admit that I am not a religious person but the anti-religious slant of the end of that article bugged me even then. It was definitely not as overt as claimed and I felt like that distracted from the fact that the company screwed thousands of dollars and time from it's employees while not being honest about the companies situation.
