That was pretty depressing.
D'ya wanna know what's wrong with the world?
Everywhere there's people with no flowers in their hair...

Quite an in depth interview though.

Well, if you want a fun one, Nardwuar, the Human Serviette asks questions sent in by Courtney Love. Ian's responses are quite amusing:

Unless this was still part of your learning process, Courtney, what the hell were you doing hanging around with the Teardrop Explodes anyway?

He also regales with tales about his coats and how his beauty advice is to just use soap.

Yeah, that was good. Went a lot deeper than the standard hack interview does. A couple things...

-- He said Think I Need it Too took him 5 minutes to write, and that sounds about right. I would've guessed 4.

-- Will was hardly mentioned by Mac or the interviewer.

-- Les and Pete's contributions were minimized, and you can tell that he and Les aren't exchanging Xmas cards these days.

-- Also, the part where he talks about trying to use a mouse is hilarious.

Well worth watching if you have the time, it's long.

Mac is, at the very least, long winded these days.

Quite interesting, tho I gave up on the second to last video because it had major, major, major buffering problems. Anything interesting said in the last video?

So, at least one of the songs on the Fountain sounds like the Pistols, eh? Guess I'm going to have to spring for a copy of the album then.

I'm having the same buffering problems. I always think it's just me. I feel better.

I went back and listened to the final video, and that one's OK too. Just the second to last, I guess.

I have issues with him saying that Pete and Les didn't really compose things. If Les came up with a bassline for Bedbugs and Ballyhoo, guess what? that means he was "writing". Sure, he may not have started things, but coming up with a baseline once there is a chord structure, or coming up with drum rhythms--that's composition also--or "writing". And yes, Will laying down the guitar tracks over the song, yep, that's songwriting too. Will has amazing sensibilities and definitely contributed to the unique Bunnymen sound. There wasn't a sense of "Mac the Mouth" he actually seems quite decent except for a misconception of what it means to actually write a song. After all, we know what it sounds like when it's Ian without Les, Will and Pete.

It was good to see John Norris as interviewer, too. Someone who was around in the 80's and actually KNOWS about the history of the Bunnymen.

Typical Mac. Half the interview I found myself smiling and the other half I wanted to choke him.

You could see him really light up when discussing his daughters.

The whole thing about Pete and Les not being involved with the songwriting process doesn't ring true for me (I was in the studio at the time offering my input). Mac himself mentioned how Heaven Up Here was so easy for them to make how they came up with the music on the spot. Plus if Mac was the principle songwriter he would eventually tire of giving up money he's entitled to. That was a little odd.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Yeah, when he talked about his daughters, you wanted to invite him over for tea.

Do you mind clarifying how it was that you were in the studio?

Yeah, I can't hear that myself. Sounds more like Electrafixion lite, gone wrong.
