They've probably put out better songs than anything on the Grey album since getting back together but as far as entire albums go I'm not sure they've put out a better album. The production on that album is what kills it. Dated and overdone.

I'm starting to think the Bunnymen should've stayed together for another few albums (like take some songs off Candleland and make them Bunnymen songs, etc.) and then call it a day sometime in the the early 90's.

The grey album demos show what a kick-ass song All My Life started out as. What ended up on the album sounds like death. Ian's voice is horrible. One of my least favorite tracks on any of their albums.

I think they were pretty tired out from all the touring and demands and stupid stuff they were doing to themselves (Will and Les excepted). They didn't hang together as well musically, vocally or socially. Plus, syths did appear where they most likely weren't really wanted at this time. The lyrics were quite good.

You could still hear the old spirit in Bedbugs and Ballyhoo. But yeah, they needed to exploit going against the grain. This was their identity crisis album, unfortunately is shattered them.

Wasn't Manchester the one when Mac was wazzed off his baps and spent much of the gig slagging off Man U (which, in fairness, is to be commended) and arguing with the crowd. Like Morrison in Miami but bereft of the beard or the bearing of the bollocks.

Liverpool was good, Bradford was very good (and, sadly, the last time I saw them with Pete).

But Wembley was dreadful and quite uncomfortable to witness.

Didn't Mac have a go at the Mancs during his solo show a year later? I seem to recall something about Pots of Gold morphing into Pots of Silver. Seemed relevant and accurate 20 years ago.

Manchester saw a lot of banter, especially the "best bands to come from Manchester" list which went on between a number of songs..
He was spaced out for sure, I remember him trying to get Les to tell a story for quite a while. Still, a fucking amazing night.
I seem to remember that he threw some kid from the stage too

I recall that on the second night in Manchester he was quite sheepish and full of apologies, and 'I love Manchester'-type backtracking.

I'm still waiting for him to apologise for Wembley.
