Grey Album/Self Titled

Postby DivaDiana77 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 7:36 pm

I'm hearing it all the way through for the first time in years and though it's not their best stuff, I have to say that alot of it was/is quite good. I can see why it went over well in America at the time--it was more pop/radio friendly while still bearing their stamp. In some instances they are overproduced, but oh well. It was around this time that they played their biggest gig in LA--the Forum. Wish I had gone but I was too young to get to see concerts. Regrets.

Grey album, discuss!
I long for the pork of Porcupine. (A slide show dedicated mostly to Will right here.... http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-l ... -here-tour)

It may not be a great album but it's still better than anything they've put out since.

I Agree

I'm a little confused with myself however has to why I still buy the "Bunnymen Product"

Go to there Gigs, and take time out to rubbish thier current output wherever I can.

Adversly I will give praise whereit is due, After what is now 30 years I think 2010 wil be the year I give up with all of it.

Mac Seems so desperate to conquer and succeed in the USA (No disrespect). The orginal stance of non conformity was what made them special.

Ho hum - There seem to be several of us here at least

It pisses over anything put out since and pisses AND shits AND vomits on The Fountrain
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Play it back to back with The Fountain, it'll sound like death metal in comparison.

It's spelt grey btw.

He meant the Gay Album.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I have not listened to it in a very long time but there are some good songs, it's just that the flat production kind of ruins it. I'd prefer a live version of any of those songs over any of these mixes any day.

Was it Les who said, "The songs were boss, but it was just overproduced".. ?

I like bits, but it should have been rougher, like Rollercoaster or when they played the Game & Lips on the Whistle Test with Billy Bragg

Have I mentioned I listen to most of the Grey album along with various solo Mac songs in my truck every day?

I'm something of an exhibitionist so no, no curtains.

i like the first three songs, then have to skip to lips and then switch it off or read the paper. I have the picture on the wall, like a student in my bedsit.

It is just Bunnymen luck that they put an overproduced slick album out three years before Nirvana breaks. Not that Nevermind wasn't slick - but it was also loud and compressed with guitar guitar guitar!
