Isn't Proxy some take on a Mott the Hoople song?

Agree about Idolness of Gods, but that song still can't top What If We Are? I'm still waiting to hear the most goddam awful Mac ballad ever written in all time and history to top that. There must be one... somewhere?

Sorry ITM, I have to disagree. It is the weakest song on the album. There is just something off about those pianos and the "oo-whoa oo-whoas". Like a '60s do-wop song or something. Forgotten Fields is stellar - love, love, love that song!

Idolness of Gods is very disappointing. For all Mac's raving about it - it was such a letdown to finally hear it. Agree though, it can't top "What If We Are" for the worst Mac ballad.

my favorites are the fountain, shroud of turin, and forgotten fields.

i really like the music on life of 1000 crimes, but the lyrics kind of ruin it. i can't get into idolness of gods... just doesn't do it for me as a mac ballad. i don't see the "brilliance" mac keeps talking about.

as for proxy... while it can be repetitive, its a decent pop song, and i think it would sell if it were released as a single. it has that infectious-ness where the chorus gets stuck in your head. but it sounds like a song played by some other pop band, it doesn't have that bunnymen sound at all. is Will even in there buried under the piano and woo-woos? i can't tell. he gets that little tiny bit in what you could call a "solo" but still... i hope they don't choose this as the next single. it doesn't represent the band OR the album very well.

Funny that, Proxy has a line about repetition in it as well.

Don't you mean "Life of a 1,000 Cwimes"?

I was taken back (at first) by the come to Jesus ending on The Fountain, but now I enjoy it.

I can't be sure but while I was stringing my racquets Life of a 1000 Crimes came on and I think my money maker started shaking a bit.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

proxy is sub-s-club juniors cack. 'everybaaady lissen to me woo a woo. really? pass the bucket. you could see the tweenies going on strike because they were asked to dance to it. rubbish rubbish rubbish.

i like idolness of gods because more and more it reminds me of tommy steel. i can imagine the video with mac singing to a little puppet. and no, i'm not being ironic. that one works and proxy makes me want to chcuk the cd out of the car, which might have happened if the bastard hadn't got stuck there. came out later though.

bit of a mixed bag I'd say, albumwise.

Chez

ps 10 points to the first to make a 'i am the puppet' reference

Just heard the tail end of fields on the radio. Sounded good. The kid djong said, " I don't know this band but my brother is really into them. I guess. That song was good."

What radio station are you listening to again? Do they stream on-line? I need to start requesting songs on our local college station - a lot of the stuff they play is kind of out there, but they do play Pixies once in awhile so EATB won't be a stretch for them.

Agreed! Forgotten Fields might be my favorite Bunnymen song since they've gotten back together. Too bad most of the rest of the album doesn't sound that good. It also has some of Ian's best lyrics in a long time.

The more I listen to the album, the more I realize that while the production is really good, the mix is horrible on a lot of the songs, the music is way in the background on at least half the album. Sounds a lot better on the headphones than on the speakers, IMO.
