The Pogues

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

The Pogues

I'm going to see the Pogues at the end of the month. Anybody know what I should expect? Shane McGowan supine on stage, lyrics sheet in one hand, whisky in the other? The head of Shane McGown bobbing in a jar of booze?

Looks like Ian and Shane have gone down the same road. Makes Ian sound like silk.

Seeing 'em Saturday ... Shane got new teeth apparently, so the sky's the limit.

Saw them a few years ago and it was surprisingly good. A leaping accordion player, Shane staggering around the stage with a drink sloshing in his hand, lotta male bonding in the crowd.

Looks like you know exactly what to expect.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

My god, he makes Ian look like Bing Crosby.

I have to admit I was distracted by that security guard- he looks like an Algerian zombie-
and Michael Palin on the guitar...

Can't wait for the show!

Gary Oldman would make a great Shane if anyone were to ever make a movie about his life. They could call it Shane and Vicky.

Not many could hold a candle to Luke Kelly.

Admittedly it wasn't the best version I've heard. I saw him do it live three times and all three times it was more joyous, more uplifting, more rocking which is odd cause the lyrics seem to be anything but a celebration. Great song though and it introduced me to Ewan MacColl's work and one thing I like about FB is when he plays a cover he makes sure the audience knows who it is and encourages them to look into it for themselves. Unfortunately a lot of the stuff he likes is obscure, out of print stuff.

Now you're correcting spelling to Wojo? Come on...cut me some slack.

Sorry if I offended anyone by the mis-spelling of that fine beer.

Alas, didn't make it the Pogues last night ... too sick, but here's video of the show. Poster's review of the show: This is the Pogues playing "Sayonara" after Shane fell over drunk for the first of three times.. Fucking fun and epic show, I must say
