T. Rex

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

T. Rex

I know I've started multiple topics on T. Rex but I saw this great documentary the other day and dusted off all my old MP3's. I will never go so long without listening again.

With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

I was tickled at John Simm's character meeting Marc Bolan and going all bashful in Life on Mars.
Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.

funny thing is... or not. this stuff was around when i was about 12 and they were the band the girls were into. having no idea about, you know, pulling chicks and that, i decided the best course of action was considering them like totally crap. i have since reconsidered and bits are quite good.

Until I saw the documentary I didn't know know Bolan was a total teen idol. I knew he was huge in the UK but I didn't realize it was to that extent. That probably would have turned me off back then as well. But I love trashy rock and roll and in the end Bolan's work has proven timeless and very influential. Probably why I live for Love and Rockets also. Reminds me a lot of T. Rex.

I always felt T. Rex was _the _ band Oasis ripped off.

theres a film - or was a film - i saw called 'born to boogie' which was half messing about a la beatles type film and half concert footage of Trex. Also includes elton john & ringo starr i tink. worth digging out just to see them in action.

oasis have taken their influences from all sorts of places (about three I'd say) but youre right especially about, say, cigarettes and alcohol, but that riff was hardly original when Trex used it.

heres a bit of it:

and note the comlpete absence of superfluous additional musicians on stage, though obviously could have been dubbed so dunno why i said that. and one might question the point of micky fynn on the bongos.

i think i thuoght that when i saw it. too much of the messing about talking to each other, though the concert sequences were quite good. now, have you ever seen that one that has Mud and the Rubettes in it?
