REM

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

REM

It's easy to forget what an exciting band they were...

(Although Stipe looks like he's singing to himself here.)
"He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail, but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits."

Had they stopped 18 years ago, it probably wouldn't be.

wouldn't be what? i remember them getting bottled suporting U2 at their longest day. stipey was going through his 'wearing a big hat' phase. obviously he's still a bit shy - well there must be a good reason for him keeping his head up his arse all the time.

Another one of those bands that many of my friends were fanatical about, but no matter how hard I tried, just couldn't get into them. It's not that I dislike them, I just couldn't find anything about them that moved me.

sorry i just posted the wrong answer... ignore me. document's good and their 'geatest hits' singles thingy is one of those albums thats good on its own - apart from it doesn't include their greatest hit obviously , because 'its unrepresentative' apparently. well mr stipe its the only one 99% of the human race has heard therefore, in a way, its quite representative. bah.

I used to ADORE REM, but now they've gone all pompous. Almost U2-bad in my book. I still love everything up to Green, though Out of Time has it's moments.
Document is one my favorite albums ever.

I agree. Although I am a fan of Green and Life's Rich Pageant the most.

Stipe got burned early on when he was coming down on General Electric only to play Saturday Night Live which is owned by GE.

Stipe was very interesting when he was quiet and shy. Then Document got him talking - and talking and ever since the world has wanted to punch him in the mouth.

If I had a choice of punching Stipe or Bono, I'd only hesitate for a second before punching Bono right in the kisser.

LRP IS a beautiful album.

Perfect Circle is amazing. I can't watch them now. I saw Stipe intro it on MTV Unplugged long ago ad puked in my mouth a little.

Yeh, if they came out with a new album now, I probably wouldn't even hear about it. Except maybe here.

Did you hear of Accelerate?

Or the new Live?

The band knows they are fading away. Accelerate was recorded as if they were a garage band. Nothing.

The new one? They are trying demos this time.

No - hadn't heard of either of those.

Aren't bands supposed to go out in a blaze of glory and not just fade away- or peter out?

Or Peter Buck?

The Who tired to go out in a blaze of Glory and we ended up with the terrible Double Live WHO'S LAST?

Off the top of my head, The Jam is the only one that did it right.

In the early 90s, Mills talked about calling it quits on the eve of 2000. Bill Berry was the only one who did.
