New Richard Hawley

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

New Richard Hawley

This one may fly under your radar - Richard Hawley's new album has a weak song as the first single. They should have chosen "Open Your Door." If you dig Matt Monro schmaltz (he sang the Bond song for From Russia) combined with a little Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) you might like this.

Yeah, the Munro video is a bit - greeting card. But good song.

Halwey is not making a blip on this side of the pond. Aside, from critics spreading the word, everything is is emo or check out girls in dance bands.

Sadly, if Mac wants to sound like Hawley, he fails. The cigs destroy the silk he'd be aiming for.

Richard seemed pretty cool in an "older Mac" kind of way when he collaborated with Elbow. He has the cool crooner aspect of Mac but without all the other things that made the young version of Mac the greatest singer on the planet. Elbow might have done better to borrow Mac, but I guess Richard is more reliable, if more limited in style.

Richard Hawley is an odd artist to like for the kind of crooner music he does. But you can't help but not dislike him. Cool bugger.

I quite like Richard Hawley (I've only heard Coles Corner so far)...the Matt Munro comparison is spot on (you cant beat a bit of From Russia With Love or Born Free).

I also agree Mac could have gone down the Hawley route and made just as good a stab at it (better voice in fact). But, as has been pointed out, he just cant be arsed.
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.

Imagine if EATB wrote a haunting song about the ocean?

Even the cd gets "samey."

I love the new one but think it will be all I need to cover his sound.

Richard Hawley's cds should carry a government health warning.
I recently aquired his new one and quite liking it had a listen to some of his other stuff. I have to say it's alright in small doses but too much of it and I end up like the depressed priest from Father Ted, who gets cured of depression by Ted playing him the 'Theme From Shaft' and then gets on a bus, all happy and jolly, only to hear Radiohead's Exit Music and then becomes depressed again.
Cheer up Richard you miserable bastard, things can't be that bad surely.
And you know that I'll pick up
Every time you call
Just to thank you one more time
