Me too - I love the ending! I didn't download the album either. I heard the full version of Drivetime on the BBC Merseyside show - re-played it over and over again at work.

I think the ghost of guitar player is actually the ghost of Billy Mays.

I had never heard of Billy Mays until this morning.

I think this is the stuff suitable for fountain leaks?

Me too, listened to it over and over from that radio show. It gets better every time.

The album is hard to gauge for me. From a production-standpoint, it's well done and I think Ian was pretty accurate comparing this to Porcupine, since both albums are really layered. Musically they're not very similar, of course.

Just about every song has cool parts in it, but about half the songs are ruined with either really bad lyrics and/or backing vocals (Proxy, Do You Know Who I Am) or a bad chorus (I Think I Need It Too, The Fountain). Think I Need to me sounds like the spiritual successor to It's Alright, some cool music and verse but a really bad chorus.

Anyone notice how short some of the songs are? Everlasting really seemed like it should've been longer at the end, IMO. Some of the songs seem to have a cut and paste approach to them, not that it's bad thing necessarily.

Forgotten Fields, Shroud of Turin, Everlasting and Drivetime are the standout tracks for me. If some of the other songs had some lyrical changes and some tweaks here and there they'd be up there too probably. Definitely the best produced Bunnymen album of the new ones. Hopefully the next album will have similar production.

It could have the best production ever but if the songs aren't up to it it means bugger all.
I find the new album to be a bland collection of innofensive pop songs, nothing stands out for me, there are a few glimpses of brilliance from Will here and there but other than that it just passed me by without incident. I neither hate it nor particularly like it, the production might be good but for me it's the weakest Bunnymen album to date.
Maybe Mac should have had the balls to release it as a solo album?

True, with some of the songs it's like trying to polish a turd. Maybe that's being too harsh. I like about half the album. There's some pretty good parts here and there throughout the album. I think the biggest problem with the Fountain is also one of it's strong points - the producer. I think Ian handed over too much control to McLaughlin, since he seems to have co-written parts of the album.

I think on some songs Will should've had a stronger presence. You can hear his guitar but on some of the songs it's like it's an after thought from the producer, breaking though here and there but never quite getting to where it should be, IMO.

I'm afraid so - it'll be out in 2013.

I have some serious problems with the Fountain, but the production really does make me want to see them make another album with similar production values.

For those that have copies, which track is the Chris Martin one and how many has John McLaughlin written?
