I'll listen to it tonight. I kinda skipped through to hear the song and avoid any more of that's chick's laughter.

Ghostie, you make some valid points in most of your posts and I enjoy reading the debate over the new stuff...for the record I also got into the Bunnymen in 84 and saw the original line up twice but that means jack shit mate.....I like to read everyone's views.

Ta for that Manna Machine. Thing is with the Bunnymen is that they have crossed over three decades. I only took proper notice of them in 1997 and Evergreen wasn't successful in the UK because all their 80s fans came out of the woodwork, brushed off the moth balls from their Mac-style overcoats and bought the album on mass. They were clearly aiming to cash in at my lot at the time, who were listening to The Verve, Radiohead, Oasis, etc and probably a year or so before Britpop bands. I liked at the time most of what I heard and then checked out their back catalogue. I just don't like most of the new stuff coming out now, but I wouldn't class it as a crap album. I can see why many of the longer-term fans might like it, while others might not. Apart from a few tracks, it just doesn't appeal to my tastes at this moment in time.

God, if I was still following the music I liked in the 80s, I'd be reviewing some really naff stuff. I had some really mixed tastes back then.

Didn't Evergreen go gold in the UK? Meaning it moved 500,000 copies? I thought I read that somewhere but I could very well be wrong.

No idea. Don't know how many copies were needed to be sold to get to number eight. Great album for that year amongst the Urban Hymns and OK Computers even if several of the songs were so-so.

A Gold album in the UK means 100,000 sold. It reached number 8 but I don't know for how long. According to the org that determines this info, http://www.bpi.co.uk/certifiedawards/search.aspx it did not reach Gold. The last Gold album they released was Ocean Rain. The Grey Album was Silver (60k)

I think Evergreen was at number eight for one week only. I can't even recall if entered it the charts at that position.

I'm in awe of you old timers. You guys post some great conversation.

I've been into them for less than a year, not yet having listened to all their albums. I really do prefer the live shows.

I'm still in love, not unlike what many of you experienced years ago, before the disillusioment set in. Or is it a Glenn Close-like obsession? I will have much time to debate that as I drive to London after the show on the 19th, while I struggle to remember "drive to the left".

Sorry, its cool in the house this evening and I must return to the comfort of my straight jacket.

Life of a Thousand Crimes should have been released as a single.

It sounds like a Morrissey song title.

Life of a Thousand Crimes is better than Think I Need It Too, but I think it would have been better with Will on it.

There was an interview with Mac on BBC Radio Merseyside last night. Told you a bit more about the album, the Ocean Rain one-offs. Played Drivetime, which sounds unfinished. I still quite like that Neverending one. About 1.15 in.

I like Drivetime, but I have to bitch about the mix again, Ian's vocals are too loud on the song, when that cool choppy guitar kicks in it's hard to even hear it on my speakers. Some of the music at the end is really cool and different than a lot of the other stuff they've put out. Really cool little guitar riffs, but I'm a little sick of all the doo-doo doo's Ian keeps singing over musical breaks in a lot of these songs.
