Are the ones bringing down ACORN?

I just saw the picture of them today and damn near crapped myself laughing.

Or is that only when you don't like what he has to say?

No I just figured a Jon Stewart clip was the only way to get the enlightened portions of our society to ever see these videos.

So what is ACORN, anyway? From the far Right's disdain for it, it must have something to do with poor minorities.

Sounds like a bunch of nuts.

ACORN appears to be all for helping poor minorities. They were going to help underage Salvadoran girls find work and help them get a house to ply their new trade.

Sounds noble to me.

There was some voter fraud but I don't know how widespread it was. One side says it was of epic proportions the other side it was a few workers just trying to pad their paychecks. After watching those videos I would lean closer to the former.

I mean underage illegal alien prostitutes? That's pretty bad.

I just watched the video. I just puked in my mouth. Are Elliot Spitzer and Rep. Frank. Rep. Cunningham going on a bender after Heidi Fleiss' ring was busted and her client book suddenly "disappeared"?

WASHINGTON - The House voted yesterday to deny federal funds for ACORN in a GOP-led strike against the scandal-tainted community organizing group that occurring just three days after the Senate took similar action.

“ACORN has violated serious federal laws, and today the House voted to ensure that taxpayer dollars would no longer be used to fund this corrupt organization,’’ said Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, a Republican.

The vote, on a provision attached to a student aid bill, was 345 to 75, with Democrats supplying all the “no’’ votes.

On Monday the Senate voted 83 to 7 to deny housing and community grant funding to ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. And last week, the Census Bureau severed its ties with the group for the 2010 national population count.

Republicans have urged federal officials to go further by launching a comprehensive investigation of how ACORN spends and manages federal money. The Senate and House actions to cut funding for ACORN won’t take effect until the bills to which they are attached clear Congress and are signed by President Obama.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs on Wednesday said that the conduct seen on tapes released Monday “is completely unacceptable’’ and that the Obama administration “takes accountability extremely seriously.’’

Going after ACORN may be like shooting fish in a barrel lately -- but jumpy lawmakers used a bazooka to do it last week and may have blown up some of their longtime allies in the process.

The congressional legislation intended to defund ACORN, passed with broad bipartisan support, is written so broadly that it applies to "any organization" that has been charged with breaking federal or state election laws, lobbying disclosure laws, campaign finance laws or filing fraudulent paperwork with any federal or state agency. It also applies to any of the employees, contractors or other folks affiliated with a group charged with any of those things.

In other words, the bill could plausibly defund the entire military-industrial complex. Whoops.

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) picked up on the legislative overreach and asked the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) to sift through its database to find which contractors might be caught in the ACORN net.

Lockheed Martin and Northrop Gumman both popped up quickly, with 20 fraud cases between them, and the longer list is a Who's Who of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors.

The language was written by the GOP and filed as a "motion to recommit" in the House, where it passed 345-75.
