Will's a big boy. I'm sure if the songwriting process bothered him, he'd speak up. Perhaps he couldn't be bothered coming up with the new songs.

Also, I don't find Les to be the fabulous wonder of the world that others think he is. What he has to say in a sour grapes interview means nothing to me.

Well, not quite but close. The first four albums were their finest. The grey album is discounted because of the circumstances surrounding its creation and then there's Evergreen. Many songs from Electrafixion are far better than the songs on Evergreen. (Sorry Jack.)

I think the first four albums succeed to such a high degree because of Pete (who I remember reading was the spark behind the song writing process), the various producers, the stage in their careers, the general music environment, etc. Les, while contributing to the overall success, wasn't the sole reason.

I agee that their current song writing process is flawed. But the finger of blame needs to be pointed at both key members, not just the easy scapegoat.

I do think his limitation were his style. I also think (guess based on interviews with Pete and Les) that their interplay were an inspiration on the first four albums. And he was on Evergreen which has Empire State Halo - their greatest post 80s song in my opinion.

Like you said, Will is a big boy and if he ha real porblem with the way things are he could put his foot down. That might mean, though, Ian simply saying "Screw off, I'll do pizza parlors."

I am not a fan of the new songs - but seeing as the duo has no intent on being dark and quirky - good luck to them finding a new market.

Certainly, Empire Stato Halo was their greatest post 80s song. The majority of tracks off Evergreen and its b-sides -- I'd take that over some of the stuff that I have heard for this new album any day.

I thought Will did most of the writing for Flowers and while some of the sounds in the music were interesting despite being poorly produced, that turned into a damp squib.

I just don't get any of it. Will can produce some good solo stuff and appeared to write some good songs for Reverberation. I bought a few of MP3 tracks from the Candleland & Mysterio extended edition the other day that I'd never heard before and those tracks still pissed on some of the stuff Mac is churning out now.

Van Halen, Boston, and Zeppelin had pretty fair debut albums as well.
