The Obligatory Depeche Mode thread

We know there is more to life than the music of the Bunnymen. Talk about those other bands here.

Contented of Hove? That's a crap thread title if I ever heard one.
With the Force as his ally he did battle with the Dark Lord. And he showed the measure of a true Jedi at a place called "The Death Star" where hope for the Galaxy was reborn. May all who struggle against tyranny hold his memory in their hearts

Violator still sounds fresh and relevant so I would consider it a new Depeche Mode album as well.

I don't wanna sound like a queer or nothin', but I think Depeche Mode is a sweet band!

Sweet enough that you won't go posting in the lime tree gulf stream thread?

Did we cover the part about whether the band has suffered without Alan Wilder? I forget.

During the touring and promotion for Speak & Spell, Clarke began privately to voice his discomfort at the direction the band was taking. In November 1981, Clarke publicly announced that he was leaving Depeche Mode. Gore, who had written "Tora! Tora! Tora!" and "Big Muff" for Speak & Spell, was forced to become the band's new songwriter.

After re-listening to Recoil and Alan Wilder's DM songs last week I have come to the conclusion that his strengths lie in production and not as a songwriter. So when you pair him with an amazing songwriter like ML Gore then you get sonic nirvana. While I used to think Gore needed Wilder more than Wilder needed Gore I have since modified my opinion. I still stand by my assertion that Gore is the most underrated songwriter of the rock era.

That conversation withahip?

This is a disaster!
Mr. Brian, I find that offensive.

Scouser's inability to se others' point of view is rather grating.
